Child Alert Foundation Benefit Concert
6/5-6/99
As always, a show of any type takes a great deal of planning, hard
work and last minute problems which were all greatly achieved and overcome by CAF Member,
Jimmy Williams of Music Creations Unlimited who produced the show.
Held June 5th and 6th at J. D.'s Dance Ranch in Salem, Indiana
this two day event was held
outdoors on 15 acres of country ground through the coutesey of John and (wife-last name).
The weather wasn't kind to us as it was in the upper 90's both days, but folks were able
to escape the heat and while enjoying indoor entertainment, great food and airconditioning
inside the Ranch.
It wasn't as easy for the entertainers as the heat on the stage
was at least 15 degrees hotter than out on the field, but the heat they all generated into
their performaces was pure electric and far more appreciated than any breeze could have
been.
The show was first opened by playing the title cut from Chris
Curtice's album, "Forever Bound By The Heart". Our dear friend, Eddie Bear who
came in from Illinois with Gerry (last name) to MC the event then kicked things into high
gear as he welcomed everyone and introduced the first entertainer, *****.
Performing on Saturday were Jaime Beaver, Josh Bradshaw, Hoyt
Hughes, Jesse Zane, JOe and Tamara Tinoco, Greg Wilson, Tecia McKenna, Jon Moon, Angel
Jackson, Hanna Michaels,
Behind the Scenes
Skip and Shay Gosnell arrived early Friday morning with their band
members ***** and all the sound equipment which they hauled from Brevard, N.C. They worked
all day at the Ranch setting up the equipment in preparation for the show. They also
worked the sound equipment for both days of the show, braving the heat with smiles on
their faces.
The CAF crew arrived Friday afternoon. VP, Vince Albers, Finance
Officer, Nancy Albers, myself and my Ma, Hilda Buyher. Ma wasn't about to miss a show with
all her favorite artists appearing and we were thrilled she was joining us.
Hoyt and Wendy Hughes flew in from Florida and CAF V.P., Vince
Albers and I were to pick them up at the airport Friday at 4p.m. As it turned out, their
flight was delayed due to faulty engines and other plane problems. They ended up boarding
3 different planes to get there! Wendy said that when they realized they were going to do
an emergency landing due to engine problems, Hoyt started singing "Amazing
Grace". I guess God was listening....though their arrival was delayed by two
hours, they did arrive, safe and sound and needless to say, happy to be on the ground!
Since many of us were staying at the Jeffersonville, IN. Ramada
Inn through the courtesy of manager, Bridget Snelling, we were able to spend time to get
aquainted...which wasn't necessary since we all fell right into place from our
"online friendships" as though we've always known each other. The only strange
part about it was that it didn't feel at all strange.
I spotted Joe Tinoco's parents (Johnny & Hope) unloading their
car at the entrance of the hotel. I knew who they both were right away and gave a shout at
Hope. So, there we were, yakkin' away at the hotel entry port like a couple of magpies.
Later that evening Hope even gave me a much needed haircut. LOL....it's great to have a
beautician right down the hall!
Before I had a chance to kick up my feet and relax, I got a call
from Wendy Hughes. "Guess what I found???? There's a bar on the 2nd floor and they're
doing Karoke! Come on, let's go!" So, we passed on the word and before you know
it we were all in the bar where Hoyt entertained the crowd each time it was his
turn....and we shouted, "Hoyt, Hoyt, Hoyt, !!!" It didn't take him long to gain
new fans who even came to the show the next day just to see Hoyt perform.
As the evening wound down, a young man in a black cowboy hat with
two gals walked through the dim-lit bar as though he were looking for someone. It wasn't
until he was ready to walk out of the bar that Wendy said, "There's Jesse." I
did a double-take then called out his name. I couldn't believe my own eyes as a
"brand new" Jesse Zane stood before me! Twenty pounds slimmer, muscles bulging,
hair cut and no mustache he looked years younger. The only thing that remained unchanged
was his great sense of humor and dynamic talent. Unfortunately, by time he'd arrived it
was too late to show it off in Karoke....that night. Word has it that he and Hoyt returned
to the bar on Saturday night to enjoy more shanagans with the crowd.
