Hi All,

Once again, I'm behind on getting the news out to y'all but I have a very good reason. I spent nearly all of 2 weeks researching laptop PCs and then combing the net to find the one that gave me the most within my limited price range. I'm happy to report, I found one and it's due to arrive tomorrow! YEHAW! Of course, I'll make myself sick till I figure it all out and get all my programs loaded, etc. but hopefully not as ill as I felt while shopping for it. I'll tell ya, it's quite nerve racking to shop for something so important and costly. I tried to buy one in a regular store but there aren't many stores here in the sticks that carry PCs and whatU_THINk17.GIF (1347 bytes) they do have is limited, so I looked at what they had, figured out what I wanted/needed and went to work online. Hopefully, by time I send out the next newsletter I'll be able to tell you if I love it or I'm "just learning to living with it".

News from Roger Ryan

Garth Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood were among the many celebs from the music world who attended promoter Jim Aiken's funeral in Belfast this week. Jim was resonsible for staging some of Garth's biggest shows, in particular 4 sell-out shows at Croke Park in Dublin, attracting a total of 160,000 people overall for the 4 days. Jim also promoted Garth for 8 sell-out shows at The Point, in Dublin. Dolly Parton, Charley Pride, Johnny Cash, Reba Mc Entire, Geo Hamilton IV, Willie Nelson and Boxcar Willie, were just some of the other country acts he brought to Ireland. We will be forever grateful to Jim Aiken for giving us the opportunity of seeing some of the top entertainers in the world performing here in Ireland.

This year's Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival will take place from 13th to 16th September 2007 at Longford and some of the American acts lined up are The Nashville Bluegrass Band, Guy Clark,Tim O'Brien, Dirk Powell, Carter Brothers Band, Rough Deal String Band, Jeff & Vida, and Ranch House Favourites.

Among the Irish acts already signed are Niall Toner Band, Four Men & A Dog, Dervish, Gerry O'Connor, Arty McGlynn, Unwanted (Cathy Jordan, Rick Epping, Seamie O'Dowd), Niamh Parsons. Other artists are to be added.

Johnny Napp

JohnnyNapp.jpg (4287 bytes)Johnny Napp, a tall, dark and handsome Virginia-boy is ready to ‘Cowboy Up!’ Whether working the hardwood or the stage, the extraordinary talents of this athlete and country music phenomenon guarantee to electrify any crowd who sees him play. Recently, NCAA regulations forced Johnny to choose between his two loves, music and basketball. Overwhelmed by aspirations of music stardom he decided to forfeit his basketball scholarship at James Madison University. Undeterred, he has charged after his dream with both guns blazing. It all started when famed record producer, Doc Holiday, saw the potential in the young artist. Doc Holiday says this about Johnny Napp, “This kid stands alone carrying the most potential I have ever come in contact with throughout my 45 year career. He's electrifying on stage, his ability to learn in the studio is uncanny and his quickness to adapt to any situation dealing with the public is mystifying to anyone that comes in contact with him. Johnny Napp truly is THE FUTURE OF COUNTRY MUSIC.” Johnny’s debut CD is a rockin’ good time that showcases his musical versatility. The title track and first single, Cowboy Up and Party Down, is a boot-slapping party song that is sure to whip concert-goers into frenzy. “There are certain songs that show your appreciation to the fans that are having fun and are willing to sing along; this is one of those songs,” Johnny said. Johnny is currently working on a new album which features some of Nashville’s hottest session players like the legendary Charlie McCoy, who has recorded with Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings and hundreds of others. The new album showcases his musical versatility with songs like Delta Dawn, Tanya Tucker’s first hit from 1972 that was eventually recorded by Helen Reddy and 76 other artists over the years. Dawn’s writer, Alex Harvey, for the first time ever added a new bridge to the song especially for Johnny. Harvey even lends background vocals to the track. Johnny’s flexibility on the album may be a reflection of the musical influences from his childhood. “My parents always listened to oldies or classic rock and my sisters listened to country and hip-hop. I’m glad I was exposed to such a variety of music at a young age because it has enabled me to appreciate more forms of music today. I still listen to all kinds of music and try to incorporate them into my own.” Johnny has since embraced artists like Garth Brooks, Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Hank Williams, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tim McGraw and Toby Keith. “There is a commonality with all of these performers; all of them were pioneers with their style. This is something I aspire to achieve.” He may be young, but this isn’t his first rodeo. This fast-rising country singer has already shared the stage with some big names in country music such as Billy Currington, Jason Aldean and David Allen Coe. Once onstage his true persona comes alive with a scorching, red-hot live show that enthralls his audience and leaves them screaming for more. “The major thing that drives me to be an entertainer is the fans. Music has always touched me deep inside; a single song can easily change the mood for the day. Being an entertainer gives me the opportunity to pass this onto other listeners. I can lighten the load of life for a while by offering people a break from their usual day. If people honestly get this satisfaction out of my music, then things are alright.”
Thank you for all of the support with the new single. Please continue to call your radio stations and request “Meat On Her Bones”

Johnny Napp’s single, Meat On Her Bones, has been shipped to radio. Johnny is scheduled to open up for Blake Shelton and Rodney Atkins. He is also going back to James Madison University to play The PUB on March 15th.

gorgeousGinny2.jpg (5375 bytes)It's hard to believe it's been almost five years since she left us.
Our sister Val just sent us this picture,
which we've never seen before.
Ginny's beauty shines through,
so I'm sending it to our friends today,
along with an article I wrote during a dark time.

(Written April 1st, 2002.)

Please forgive me if I make a few typos, double mail,
and if I cry a little.
My kid sister passed away today, and I'm having a few beers.
I'm not much of a drinker, but today is different.

"Her name was Virginia. We called her Ginny.
She was the closest thing to a saint I've ever encountered.
She never said a mean word or hurt anybody in her entire life.
I'm telling you this because that's what friends are for.

"Ginny had a great sense of humor.
When she fell and broke the largest bone in her body,
The paramedics in the ambulance asked her how she was.
You know what she said?
She said: "I can't kick."

"She was weak and sick all her life.
Sometimes I feel guilty because I got all the health and strength.
She had an eye operation at the age of about six.
They took the eye out while they worked, with no anesthetic.
That was in the old days, before lasers.

"I was her protector, but I couldn't protect her this time.
She's been in and out of hospitals for the past several years,
and this time her heart stopped.

"I truly hope there is a life after death,
and that she can walk and run, and see, and sing...
all the things she couldn't do here.

"She was afraid to die. Aren't we all?
She loved life, even though it had treated her cruelly.
Easter weekend is a perfect time for her to leave this world.
She was as pure as Easter.

"We are having her memorial service on April fourth, her birthday.
Misty will be playing "Someday My Prince Will Come",
and other of Ginny's favorites, which include a few hymns.

"I have to try and dwell on how lucky I am to have known her.
Time is getting away from us, so, pray for us all, my friends.
We need it.
"Jack Blanchard, 2002."

We miss you, Ginny.
Jack Blanchard, 2007.

Grandma-EthelMayBlanchard.jpeg (9415 bytes)Did you ever find yourself visiting friends, and you get cornered into looking at their family pictures? And yet, when guests come to your house, you drag out your family album, even though you know it drives them nuts. You can't help it. Today I'm sending you a picture of my grandmother. I can't help it.

My grandmother dressed in the Gibson girl style when she was young. That was before torn jeans, before hip hop styles, before hippies, before bobby soxers, and before flappers.

I think Gibson Girls wore corsets to hold things together. The flappers later tossed all that restrictive armor away. Maybe that's how they got to be flappers.

I think the Gibson style was prettier and had more dignity, but the flappers of the Roaring Twenties, like my mother, were wilder and maybe more exciting. It depends upon your idea of "exciting".

The bobby soxers of the 1940's screamed at Frank Sinatra. I don't know why. He hadn't even slapped them around yet.

The hippies were the relaxed crew who invented "laid back". They protested for peace, rock and roll, and smoking pot. They were speakers for freedom, and against expensive material things. Unfortunately, they grew up to be yuppies.

Today the boys wear clothes eight sizes too big, and the girls wear very little. If they enjoy it, more power to them. Life for them is not going to be easy unless their parents are rich. For what it costs to go to college now you used to be able to buy a medium-sized neighborhood.

Anyway, my sister Val has been creating family web sites, and the photographs are fascinating to me. There was much more to my grandmother than meets your eye in the pretty picture. If you'd like to visit her website, it's here: http://tinyurl.com/2fp84z.

That wasn't so bad, was it?

Anne-M-braids.jpg (3873 bytes)Intuition is the sophomore album from Norwegian-born singer/songwriter Ann-Marita. Intuition continues to push the boundaries of modern country music where Ann-Marita's 2004 self-titled debut left off. Backed up by some of Australia's top musicians, and produced by guitar virtuoso Brett Garsed, Ann-Marita delivers an album rich in diversity and creativity. From growing up in a Norwegian mining community north of the Arctic Circle, to coming of age as a foreign exchange student in the American Midwest, to singing party tunes on Swedish cruise ships, to being broke but hopeful pounding the Los Angeles pavement, to building a new life and career in Melbourne, Australia, this girl has lived to tell all, and every little bit of experience has added its share to the heartfelt stories and soaring melodies on Intuition.

"As I was writing these songs, I realized there was a theme starting to form," Ann-Marita says. "There was a thread running through everything, tying the songs together: listening to your instincts and following your heart and your gut. The title "Intuition" seemed to fall naturally into place, especially after I wrote what was to become the opening track and first single: "A Woman's Intuition"."

"A Woman's Intuition" kicks off the album with a very non-country distorted guitar riff, moving into a knock-down rock'n'roll anthem reminiscent of The Eagles or early Linda Ronstadt, with Ann-Marita's powerhouse voice tearing through the chorus: "I ain't puttin' it down to superstition/ You can't mess with a woman's intuition".

"Intuition, to me, isn't about being psychic," Ann-Marita explains. "Women often tend to spend more time listening to other people than to what their own gut is trying to tell them. I've been accused of writing a lot of girl-power songs, and as you can see, I'm not about to stop anytime soon!"

Intuition is not your mainstream modern country album. It is, however, proof that an indie artist on a shoestring budget can absolutely make a record that can compete with the majors on every level. All it takes is outstanding musicianship, a producer who can cut to the core of what the artist is truly about, a lot of guts, drive and a healthy sense of humor, and last but definitely not least, some damn great songs and a big, big voice.

For more information on Ann-Marita, to schedule an interview or book a show while she is in the States or Canada, please contact Laura at wildfirepublicity@comcast.net or 615-825-0019. Photos, CDs, & MP3s are available to radio and the media by request.

Vin Lamar has joined forces with legendary music producer, Neal James, to produce Vin's debut self-titled cd. The Vin Lamar CD was released on Aladdin Recordings today, February 27. The debut single, "Fittin' In," is currently being aired on radio worldwide.

“I got into music by going to church,” says Vin. “It's where I first heard music being sung and where I learned about harmony and song structure.” Vin plays both piano and guitar, both from professional & self-teaching. He began writing in college and played in a Top 40 cover band, but really became serious about performing over the last 4 years, compiling hundreds of original songs.

The Vin Lamar musical style is considered to be somewhere between Americana, Alternative, Country and Pop. As a singer/songwriter, Vin has the ability to express and define certain chosen moments when life hands you challenges and obstacles. Yet, without missing a beat, Vin can cleaverly embrace the amusing and lighter side of life in lighthearted and humorous offerings of the pen. Vin addresses the full gambit of life's emotions filled with painful decisions as well as moments when you are able to laugh at yourself.

Vin Lamar's self-titled cd is currently available on CDBaby.
