Johnny Carroll 50 years in Showbusiness By Roger Ryan rogerryan@eircom.net JOHNNY CARROLL This year Johnny Carroll celebrates fifty years in showbusiness and is still going strong. He is organising a concert in the Blarney Castle Hotel, Blarney, Co.Cork, on Wednesday 28th February to celebrate this historic achievement. The show is in aid of Marymount Hospice, a cause very close to Johnny's heart. The concert starts a 8 .00 p.m. and will feature Louise Morrissey, Trudi Lalor, Michael English, PJ Murrihy and band Sea Breeze, and of course Johnny and his Golden Trumpet. The show is being recorded for RTEs Nationwide TV Prog. Known far and wide as the Man with the Golden Trumpet, he is one of the most highly regarded entertainers in the country and one of the bestknown faces in Irish show business. That's not surprising because Johnny Carroll has appeared on almost every entertaiment show on RTE in recent years. He is one of those entertainers who served his apprenticeship with well known showbands as The Premier Aces and The Magic Band. It was his debut solo album, A Touch of Class, that paved the way for this top class instrumentalist on the showbiz ladder. Since then he has been reaping the rewards of his success in both the recording and performing fields. For those who may not be aware, to date, his is the only one to take a trumpet solo right to the top of the charts and he achieved that with the old favourite Oh! Mein Papa. Top selling CDs are nothing new to Johnny Carroll,' A Touch of Class', 'Golden Moments', 'Legends', 'From the Heart', 'Be My Guest' featuring his old pal Jackie Healy Rea and 'Johnny Carroll and Friends', which was recorded with some of the top names in the entertainment business that Johnny has met down through the years to celebrate 45 years in the business, to mention but a few. One of the highlights of his career was playing in Croke Park with the Artane Boys Band on four separate All Ireland Final Days where he performed to a live audience of 70,000 people and was seen worldwide by viewers in the UK, Australia and America. He is a unique artist who's brand of music gives pleasure to thousands of people, not only in this isle but across the water and further afield. Johnny and his band are still very much in demand for all types of social and corporate work throughout Ireland, UK and the United States with the style of music that is a sure recipe to turn every occasion into a party. Our Reflex Computer Paper TV commercial in Australia has been renewed for another year. We're mastering a great new CD album for our friend Marvin Rainwater. Our second OMNI Records anthology CD will be released next month. It takes our music from 1973 to about 1976, It's called "Weird Scenes Inside the Birdhouse". Our webmaster, Jerry has added music, a new photo gallery, the latest dirt, and about four hundred of our stories and columns to our website.... Not to mention a whole new look. And, thank you, DJ's, for playing our Stardust Records single "Blues Come In from the Rain". I think he was trying to get me off my unorthodox writing about birds in dirty underwear, robbery and murder in a dark old city, a guy being buried, and seems to know what’s going on, a country singer falling in love with a fire hydrant, and songs about birth, death, and beyond. Maybe he was testing me. I loved Bill, but it didn’t work. I still write songs about odd subjects, but I write love songs too, when they come to me. I think that good songs come out of the air, from space, or from God. When this one started to come through, I knew it had to be written. JOKERS WILD BAND’S DEBUT RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jokers Wild Band The Jokers Wild Band has released their debut original single "And the Rain." “And the Rain” can be found on CDX #416 track 11, CDTEX, Mark Trail’s comp disc, and March’s Hot Disk (Europe). "And The Rain," a hard driving country power ballad, was written by keyboardist Buck Aaron Thomas and lead guitarist Gary Zaiontz. “If you have ever had a major fight with the one you love, then had to stay awake late into the morning hoping that they would come home, all of which during a monstrous thunder storm, then this is your song!” says Buck. Jokers Wild's release of the single "And the Rain" is the result of one complete year of recording, fine tuning, mixing and mastering. "We like to refer to this recording as the place where high quality Texas Music meets Nashville Recording Standards”, says Gary Zaiontz. “Some have said that the song is actually a rock power ballad cleverly disguised as a country tune. However it comes across to the listener, few can argue with the hard-hitting emotional power of its lyrics. If you have ever waited up late at night during a rainstorm for the one you love to call or come through the door, this is your song! We took great care to construct it with amazing sounding instrumentation and screaming seamless vocal harmonies. It just had to be as perfect as we could get it!" The Jokers Wild Band, a 6-piece country / rock band, was formed in the first quarter of 2002, and has since entertained thousands of audience members throughout the larger Texas dance hall circuit. In 2006, Jokers Wild performed at the Toyota National Sales Convention held at the Joe and Harry Freeman Coliseum, in San Antonio, Texas.
