Indie Bible 2007 - Get Your Music Heard!

1 of 2 pages

Hi All,

As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, I had run into what we webmasters call "html hell". My sister and her husband had come home from Boston for a week to visit. As they only get to come home for 1 week a year, I devoted my time to visiting with them and had not been online. Afterwards I found that MKOC was not actively online. I thought, well... servers have problems from time to time, it'll be back up soon... NOT! I found myself without a web host when HostLand.com dumped my site and didn't bother to tell me. I have no idea exactly how long it had been down but had to scurry to find a good web host with a price I could afford.. then I had to redo ALL of the links that had previously led to HostLand (which was on every page) as the deal was, they would sponsor me for life as long as I kept their link on every page. Welp, I held up my end of the bargain but apparently the owner of the server didn't feel compelled to do the same. I'm happy to say, I'm now housed with TechHosting and they have great service and great deals. As you can see above, I've removed the former host and added TechHosting in it's place. No, I'm not being sponsored so it's not free, but it is affordable, especially for a site as huge as MKOC. It took me quite awhile to get all the site uploaded and updated, etc. but it's now all back in place.

I decided to take all day today preparing the news that has been sitting in my mailbox waiting to be posted for y'all. I'm sorry it's taken so long but some things just can't be helped. There's also a new review for y'all to check out. I had just written it before my sister came home so when I was uploading the site to the new server, I uploaded the review with the rest. It's not my best work by far, but at least you can hear the music and tell me... how much convincing does anyone need to know Gene Watson is one of the greatest artists in country music?!

That's right, GENE WATSON has a new CD, "In A Perfect World" is on MKOC with review and song clips! My advise, make that your first stop from the news!

"(AP) Porter Wagoner Ailing, Hospitalized"
October 19, 2007, 11:45 am

Porter Wagoner has been hospitalized with an undisclosed ailment and is in serious condition, his publicist says.

Darlene Bieber said the 80-year-old Grand Ole Opry star, known for his trademark rhinestone stage outfits, "is asking for prayers from his friends and fans."

She had no other information, Bieber said Thursday.

WSMV-TV reported that Wagoner was admitted to the hospital earlier this week for observation.

He was hospitalized for two weeks in July 2006 after suffering a stomach aneurism.

In May, he celebrated his 50th year on the Grand Ole Opry, the long-running live country music show. He helped launch Dolly Parton's career by hiring her as his duet partner in 1967.

Wagoner's career took an upturn this year when he signed with ANTI-records, an eclectic Los Angeles label best known for alt-rock acts such as Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Neko Case. He released the album "Wagonmaster," earning Wagoner some of the best reviews of his career.

Wagoner was the opening act for the White Stripes at a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan this summer.

Dave "Pappy Hamel Passed Away

It is with great sadness that we are circulating this notice.  Dave 'Pappy' Hamel passed away in his home, in the early morning hours, Sunday, October 7th.  He was having difficulty with his breathing over the last couple of days and had recently completed a series of tests to determine if he could go on oxygen therapy to relieve his discomfort.

We are taking solace in the facts that he held his active Drivers and Pilots Licenses, having trained his students up until this weekend, when he had to cancel due to his illness.
He maintained his sense of humor through these troublesome times, always having or making a joke for someone.  We celebrated Thanksgiving with our turkey dinner on Saturday evening which he thoroughly enjoyed.
At this time, we wish to extend our sincere thanks for all the love and support that has come into our home and we will be keeping you informed in the coming days.

Pappy was also a singer/songwriter from Canada. I met him through our mutual friend, Alex Cullum who sent this sad message to me. Alex was not only a good friend of the Hamel's, he was a huge fan of Pappy's work. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bob Wootton has just completed his 7th and most successful tour of Ireland. Bob, who supplied the distinctive guitar sound to the Johnny Cash Show for over 30 years, is now helping to keep the music of Cash alive. Back home in the States he has also re-formed The Tennessee Three, Johnny's Band, and they are kept busy with touring and recording. Bob will be back in Ireland again in December or a series of Christmas Shows, so keep an eye out for him. It's a most enjoyable show and one not to be missed.

Daniel O'Donnell and Mary Duff have been performing together as part of the Daniel O'Donell Show for many moons now and their duets have gone down a treat with their fans. Incredibly however, despite all the time they've spent together on the road, to date they have only released one album together. Fans have long been clamouring for a new album and the good news is that a new album is due out this week. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Daniel and Mary's performing together, they have now produced a memorable new album entitled Together Agian. Featuring a number of hit songs from across the years, Together Again is sure to be a big hit with their countless fans. Also included with the album is an exclusive 8 track DVD featuring previously unreleased songs and live performances. The DVD will only be available for a limited period.

The Glencarn Hotel, Castleblaney, Co. Monagahan, will present the Entertainment Country Music Awards on Thursday Nov 1. Michael Lyster of RTE will present some of the top names on the Irish country Music scene among them, Jimmy Buckley, Robert Mizzell,Susan McCann, Patrick Feeney, Hugo Duncan Helen McCabe and many more.

The Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney, Co.Kerry, will present a Country Music Festival on November 16, 17 and 18. Dan Michel, DJ and Program Director
WPMB and WKRV-FM, Vandalia, Illinois writes about...
We hear so many cheatin', breakup songs...Now Jack and Misty present an un-breakup, get back together song..."Is There Something On Your Mind"...The lyrics are an upbeat and true to life reflection of a couple that are glad to be together again...after some lesson learning time apart...This song has a bright and shiny melody carried by the classic Jack and Misty sound...It's perfect to hear anytime of day...But it's especially good to hear at wake up time..."Is There Something On Your Mind" will generate requests from couples who are getting together again...and are happy to be reunited.

Jack & Misty

Once upon a time a young couple lived on the edge of starvation...
but still managed to come up with beer money.
They had no cash or college degrees,
and they were too nervous to steal, so they chose music as their life's endeavor.

Cars and houses were being repossessed faster than they could replace them,
and times were hard.
There were trolls under every bridge, and wolves at the door,
but they had each other, their music, and more than their fair share of desperation.

He sat down and tried to write a song.
He printed "Notes in a Birdbath" at the top of the legal pad page,
and wrote a few lines of a story that went like this:
A guy's wife had left him, he was drinking beers, writing notes to her,
putting the notes in the empty bottles,
and throwing the bottles with the messages into the birdbath.
Sort of like a person stranded on an island tosses bottled notes into the sea.

In this case, he was drunk, the notes were not being delivered to anybody,
and the birds were getting dirty and annoyed.
He ran out of ideas before he ran out of song,
and the legal pad was tossed on The Heap of Lost Things.

Years went by and the semi-young musicians were still screwed up.
He sat on the porch, still trying to write songs.
He blamed his guitar, the weather, and General Mills for his failure.
Desperation grew into a magic force,
and suddenly a complete song popped into his maturing brain.
It was funny and had a good beat, but no title.
They sang the song together and laughed at its weirdness.
Later that night, they were given the title: "TENNESSEE BIRDWALK"
(To listen to the song, click here): http://www.kokosuniverse.com/avi/jm/wma/tennesseebirdwalk_nif.htm
