GRAND OLE OPRY TO DEBUT ON XM IN OCTOBER

XM to Be Exclusive Satellite Radio Home of the Grand Ole Opry
With Live Weekly Broadcasts, Performance Archives,
WSM-AM'S Eddie Stubbs, and More

Washington, D.C., September 26, 2007 - XM will be the new satellite radio home of the Grand Ole Opry beginning in October, it was announced today.  Beginning with the Opry's 82nd Birthday Bash broadcast featuring Carrie Underwood, Travis Tritt, Ronnie Milsap, and more on Saturday, October 20, XM will feature the live Friday and Saturday night performances as well as the Tuesday Night Opry. Additionally, XM will offer classic broadcasts of the renowned country music show, archival performances, and "The Eddie Stubbs Show," which is hosted by regular Opry announcer Eddie Stubbs.

Recognized as the preeminent showcase for country music, the Grand Ole Opry debuted on the radio airwaves in 1925 on Nashville's 650 AM WSM and can still be heard on its flagship station.  Today, the Opry counts among its members such current chart-toppers as Dierks Bentley, Martina McBride, and Brad Paisley as well as country legends including Bill Anderson, Jimmy Dickens, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton.

"We are pleased that XM listeners will now be able to experience the Opry's brand of entertainment every week," said Steve Buchanan, Gaylord Entertainment senior vice president. "Airing on XM provides Opry fans throughout the country a new way to tune in to the show and presents the Opry to an audience that may have not yet discovered this uniquely American experience."

"This is great news," said Martina McBride, an Opry member since 1995. "It's a better day for all of us when the Grand Ole Opry and all it embodies can be heard across the country on satellite radio."

The country hits channel "Nashville" (XM 11) will feature live Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday night performances (Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET; Fridays at 9 p.m. ET; Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. ET and 10:30 p.m. ET;).  Encore broadcasts of new Opry episodes will air on XM's classic country music channel America (XM 10) at 10 a.m. ET every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, along with archival Opry broadcasts.  Many individual performances recorded live on the Opry stage will also be featured on XM's other country music channels, including Willie's Place (XM 13), Bluegrass Junction (XM 14), Highway 16 (XM 16), and U.S. Country (XM 17).

In addition to the Grand Ole Opry, XM will also add "The Eddie Stubbs Show" to the XM programming lineup.  The popular WSM program is hosted by Eddie Stubbs, a regular announcer for the Grand Ole Opry, award-winning country music DJ, and respected country music historian. "The Eddie Stubbs Show" will premiere later this fall on XM 10.

The arrival of the Grand Ole Opry to XM coincides with XM's Country Music Month celebration, featuring XM's month-long showcase of country music programming throughout October.  Highlights include original music specials featuring Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Brooks & Dunn, Jack Ingram, Kris Kristofferson and Bill Anderson, among others, and exclusive programming, including broadcast of the Big State Festival from the Texas World Speedway.  Complete details on XM's Country Music Month programming are available online at http://www.xmradio.com/countrymusicmonth.

Complete programming information for XM's Grand Ole Opry broadcasts and "The Eddie Stubbs Show" will soon be available online at http://www.xmradio.com.

Opry performances are held every weekend of the year and on Tuesdays March through December.  To plan an Opry visit, call (800) SEE-OPRY or log on to http://www.opry.com.

JOHN BERRY PLANS A 'CLASSIC CHRISTMAS TOUR'

Following his current U.S. tour, John Berry will begin his holiday ritual of spreading Christmas cheer. Berry hits the road each year for an impressive tour of cities on his annual Christmas tour. This is the 12th consecutive year for Berry's holiday tour, which showcases the reason he's been tagged "Mr. Christmas." Many fans have said, "It's not Christmas until I've heard John Berry sing 'O Holy Night.'"

The country star will launch his holiday outing on November 16 with a performance in Lake City, Fla., at the Alfonso Levy Performing Arts Center. From there, he'll move on to several cities in the Southeast and travel through the Midwest through December 22. Tickets for many shows are currently on sale. The full itinerary is listed below.

In addition to touring, Berry recently released a new single, his first new music in almost three years. "A Woman Like You," written by Tim Nichols and Craig Wiseman, is currently climbing the charts. "A Woman Like You" is the first single from his 20th studio album, "Those Were The Days." The album will be released on Berry's own Clear Sky Records, in conjunction with radio promotion veteran Larry Pareigis' Nine North records.

The Georgia tenor has been recognized by the Grammys, the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association as a nominee in the Best Male Vocalist category. Berry's first No. 1 was the hit single "Your Love Amazes Me." During this career with Capitol Records, Berry hit the top of the charts and the top ten a number of times with such hits as  "She's Taken A Shine," "Standing On The Edge of Goodbye,"  "I Think About It All The Time" and "Kiss Me In The Car," just to name a few.

INSPIRATION LIVES WITHIN LEE GREENWOOD'S RE-RELEASE OF "INSPIRATIONAL SONGS"

(Nashville, TN) – If inspiration is what you are trying to find, then Lee Greenwood's re-release of Inspirational Songs is where you will find it.  This album contains eleven re-recorded songs that will lift even the heaviest of sprits. They range from Lee's heart-felt rendition of "Amazing Grace" to the soulful up-beat tune "Bound for the Promise Land." However, if this is not enough, what Lee album is complete without the timeless classic "God Bless the USA," which is the feature of this compilation.

"I think my choice of material has been an asset to my career. People recognize that I choose songs that have quality and are not cheap shots," says Greenwood. "I always record songs that have more depth in the lyric. I am a songwriter and I go for depth. Maybe that's what has made me have a lasting career."

Years of performing has taught Lee how to connect with his fans. His selective taste of songs, combined with his distinctive voice, makes this re-release a must have for any musical connoisseur.

SongU.com: New Workshops and Pitching Opportunities

This week's quotes:
"When I first joined, I thought, well I'll give it a try for a month or so. But it's such an amazing tool to learn, it became a door opener to a totally new world for me. Thanks so much for inventing this!" - quote submitted on 10/3 by SongU.com member, Peter H, Germany

Hi everyone,

Wow - it's hard to believe we're rolling into October.  Hope you are enjoying the Fall season (if it's Fall in your part of the world ;-) The weather is cooling off here and we're already discussing what our five-year old, Mia, would like to be for Halloween this year. This is our first year living in a neighborhood with sidewalks - so Mia will actually get to go around door-to-door like I did when I was a kid (in the past, we've taken her to the Mall for trick-or-treating). So it should be pretty exciting.

Speaking of exciting, our special pitch guest this month was world-wide publishing and artist management company, ETNC founder Joe Quaranto. He recently gave a guest talk about the types of material he's looking for at his company. And our members have an opportunity to pitch songs via Spin N' Pitch to his company for the next couple of months.

Upcoming SongU.com Instructor-Led Workshops

Here are some of the cool instructor-led courses registering this month. Yes, as a Platinum Member at SongU.com you can take ALL our courses for no additional cost. Plus, you'll get regular co-writing and pitching opportunities, your own member website, access to our award-winning coaching staff and more:

  • TECH 230, The Recording Process - Recording. Join producer, recording guru and Tech editor of Performing Songwriter Magazine, Fett as he passes along valuable tips for recording. This two-week course focuses recording and overdubbing. You'll learn pro recording techniques such as correct microphone placement and setting proper levels to get the best sound.

  • Melody Writing: Tapping Into Your Creative Chi: Join Grammy and Academy Award nominated songwriter and producer, John Rosasco as you learn new and exciting ways to make your music stand out from the crowd.

  • What's Cole Pitching? Hear current demos of songs from today's top songwriters as you gain insights into the pitching process from super songplugger, Cole Wright.

  • Ongoing Feedback Classes. Our members are enjoying getting personal small-group feedback on their latest songs from our faculty of hit writers. There are feedback courses running just about every week through the rest of the year.

PLANNING FOR THE ROOTS MUSIC ASSOCIATION’S UNDERWAY

EVENT TO BE HELD IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS Jun 26-29, 2008

“Help a child and support the music”

(October 2nd, 2008 – Wimberley, Texas) Planning for the Roots Music Association’s inaugural Convention, Radio Seminar and Music Festival is now underway which will take place June 26-29, 2008 in San Antonio in the middle of the beautiful Hill Country of Texas.

RMA is the fastest growing international music association that actively promotes, supports and celebrates roots music.  The RMA is committed to providing an international voice and forum for all roots based music formats in an alliance that will strive for the advancement of independent artists and will continue to encourage radio stations to play music outside of mainstream Top 40 charts. We strive to work in collaboration with any association or entity that shares our goals and vision towards the advancement of roots music.

Organizers are excited about the support the event is receiving from all corners of the music industry and business community and promises to be a memorable one with great music, special guests and a multitude of memory making moments.

“The interest in our very first event is extremely high and we’re working to pull out all the stops. It’ll be a memorable time for everyone who attends. We’ve got some great talent lined up and some very exciting tricks up our sleeves as well!” says Robert Bartosh, one of the organization’s founding directors.

The 3 day event will also include a series of interactive and educational panels, a trade fair, once in a lifetime events and networking opportunities geared toward all facets of the music industry.

The radio seminar portion of the event will draw an international panel of music programmers and personalities to discuss issues and concerns pertinent to the broadcasting industry.

The convention stream will provide opportunities for artists, musicians and industry professionals to network and educate each other through a series of interactive panels and presentations.

The music festival will provide multiple stages which showcase performers to both the conference and seminar attendees as well as the general public. Expect to hear music from artists that range from established headliners to exciting up and coming newcomers across a multitude of roots based genres including, but not limited to, Blues, Bluegrass, Americana/Country, Western Swing, Western, Roots Rock, Reggae, Folk, Cajun/Zydeco and Tejano. The initial lineup of performers will be announced soon.

The theme for the 2008 is “Music United” and speaks to the holistic, inclusive and universal approach the RMA uses to support its membership base and their collective vision. The event will be attended by radio broadcasters, promoters, publicist, artists, musicians, songwriters, label executives and more.

The Convention and Music Festival will be held at the Alzafar Shrine Center in San Antonio. The center is located on approximately 20 wooded acres, at the edge of the Texas Hill Country.

The RMA is honored at the opportunity presented to work with the Shrine organization towards their end goals of supporting children and their families. There are approximately 410,000 Shriners now across the United States, Mexico and Canada. There are 22 Shriners Hosptials for Children – 18 orthopaedic hospitals, three burn hospitals and one hospital that provides orthopaedic, burn and spinal injury care. These hospitals have cured or substantially helped more than 600,000 children – at no cost to parent or child – since the first Shriners Hospital opened in 1922.

Bartosh extends a hospitable Texas welcome to those considering attending. “We encourage our music industry colleagues to stand united and join us under the hot sun in picturesque Texas Hill Country next June for three fabulous days they won’t forget.”

For information on registration, sponsorship opportunities or submitting for performance consideration please contact the RMA at 888-391-0983 or rma@rootsmusicassociation.org.

Part of a three-day series at the Bluebird, 100% of proceeds go directly to the music therapy program which supports children by helping them with self-expression, verbalization of feelings through song lyrics, aiding in relaxation and pain management, and supporting rehabilitation efforts to help them reach their fine motor, gross motor and speech goals.

Rodney Atkins has enjoyed three back-to-back number one singles from his platinum selling album, If You’re Going Through Hell -- the title track, “Watching You” and “These are My People.” The Academy of Country Music awarded him their New Male Vocalist of the Year Award and he is nominated for the CMA Horizon Award. The singer/songwriter was also recently named the National Celebrity Spokesperson of the Year by the
National Council For Adoption (NCFA), a leading adoption advocacy organization.

MerleFest 2008 has announced the lineup of featured artists from a variety of styles and genres to celebrate the music of Doc and Merle Watson for

Plans are underway for the Roots Music Association’s inaugural Convention, Radio Seminar and Music Festival, scheduled June 26-29, 2008 in San Antonio, TX. RMA Organizers are working with the Shrine organization, supporting children and their families. There are approximately 410,000 Shriners now across the United States, Mexico and Canada including 2 Shriners Hosptials for Children, 18 orthopaedic hospitals, 3 burn hospitals and one that provides orthopaedic, burn and spinal injury care. Collectively, the hospitals have treated more than 600,000 children - at no cost to parent/child - since the first facility opened in 1922. www.rootsmusicassociation.org.
