** 2006 WINNERS ANNOUNCED - AUSTRALIAN SONGWRITER WINS TOP PRIZE
Vikki Simpson, Australian singer-songwriter from a folk group called "The Waifs"
Overall Grand Prize as well as the first prize in the Folk category with her song
"Bridal Train". This is also the first time that the top prize went to a
songwriter outside United States. This shows that there are lots of great talent out
there!
Overall Second prize winner went to Victoria Banks of Nashville, TN. She won with her song
"Midnight At A Red Light".
Overall Third prize went to Kimberly Bass, Nevada City, CA. She won with her song
"Calling All Angels".
FIRST FROM HONG KONG
Barry Chung Hing Hung became the 1st winner from Hong Kong (and China) to ever win first
prize in the USA Songwriting Competition with his song "Once You Know". Barry is
only one of 2 winners from Asia this year. Edwin Marollano of Muntinlupa City, Philippines
won an honorable mention award.
Other winners include Peter Maniatis & All The Brightness from Toronto, Canada who won
1st prize with his song "Never You". Peter is part of an indie Rock/Alternative
group "All The Brightness".
FIRST FROM CYPRUS
George Ioannides of Limassol, Cyprus also became the first in his country to ever win
first prize in the USA Songwriting Competition. He won with his song "Tell Me".
MOST SONGS IN THE FINALS
Barry Chung Hang Hung (Hong Kong, CHINA) and Michele Vice-Maslin (Los Angeles, CA) tied
for the most songs in the finals of 4 songs each. Michele has 4 songs in 4 different
categories of Pop, Rock, R&B and Novelty/Comedy, while Barry has all 4 songs in the
Instrumental category.

PAST WINNERS & FINALISTS' UPDATES
*Aruna Sutra has (2004 USA Songwriting Competition 1st Prize Winner, Pop Category) hit
number 1 on the Billboard 200 Album Charts. Her song "I Got Nerve," is featured
on the chart-busting Hannah Montana soundtrack, which hit the number one slot in the
Billboard 200 Album Charts on November 11, 2006, selling 281,000 copies. Congratulations!
Additionally, "I Got Nerve" made its Billboard Hot 100 singles chart debut
taking the following chart at #67.
*Darrell Scott's song "Good Ol USA" (2005 1st prize winner of the country
category) was recorded by Faith Hill in her new album "Fireflies", the song was
renamed "We've Got Nothing But Love To Prove" on Faith Hill's new album. The
album peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 Album Charts and has sold over 2 million
copies. The album is available in all record stores worldwide.
*Antje Duvekot (2000 USA Songwriting Competition Honorable Mention Award Winner) has risen
to the top of the folk scene. Antje picked up the "Outstanding Folk Artist"
award at the 2006 Boston Music Awards.
*Patrice Pike (2004 USA Songwriting Competition Overall Grand Prize Winner) was on the TV
series: RockStar Supernova and watched by millions all over the world. She finished within
the Top 7 and had performed on the TV program for over 1 1/2 months. Patrice has since
appeared in Austin American-Statesman, Houston Chronicle, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and
many others. Her full length CD has been released, includes songs she performed on TV.
