Mike
Parrish
Review of CD: "Rye Whiskey Why"(The
following is a review of Mike's CD which should have been posted much sooner but got lost
in the mish-mosh while I've tried to get caught up on the news.. sorry, Mike! Hope y'all
will read this, then visit Mike and maybe purchase his new CD!)
Once every 20 years or so, there comes at least one great singer/songwriter to
Country music. Mike Parrish just happens to be that artist. Parrish's latest album
"Rye Whiskey Why" is a testament to his natural ability to connect the most
meaningful sentiments in song with a voice that is just as hungry and desperate as the
pictures he's painted in his songs.
"Rye Whiskey Why" is a 10-song treasure that stirs a longing to hit the road and
'run, rope & ride.' The highlights of Parrish's album includes the upbeat cowboy
anthem "Wild and Free." Its heavy steel guitar overtones set the stage for a
down and out drifting feeling that takes us down a lonesome Texas highway with our thumbs
sticking in the wind.
"Lonely Fool" is as Texas as you can get. This track features a Bob Wills-style
fiddle that infects the soul. Parrish's songwriting ability showcases his ultimate talent.
Parrish has a way of writing in the simplest terms to get maximum results.
"Can't Drink My Blues Away" is yet another track that tears away the glitz of
today's so-called Country music and gives us nothing but hardcore Texas Honky Tonk music.
The title cut "Rye Whiskey Why" mixes Merle Haggard guitar with a Hank Williams,
Sr. style vocal and lyric. The steel guitar waves are reminiscent of Don Helms.
This album showcases an artist of the great Northwest who bares his Texas soul. Mike
Parrish is a songwriter conveying his message of love, loss and ramblin' in terms all his
own. He's the Real Deal!

Kathy
Mattea Returns To Her Roots
December 18, 2006 In January, Kathy Mattea will begin work on
an album of coal-mining songs a subject that's close to her heart, since she comes
from a coal-mining family.
"Both my grandfathers were coal miners, and one of them helped organize the
UMW," Kathy tells the Kingsport Times-News. "My mom worked at the UMW. There's a
lot of history in my family. So it feels like a good time in my life to go back to
that."
Marty Stuart will produce the project. "He's got the chops, he's got the pedigree and
he understands the music," Kathy says. "I love Marty, and we've always gotten
along really well. It's a good chance to collaborate and have a lot of fun."
Kathy's newest song, "The Slender Thread That Binds Us," was written after the
Sago Mine disaster. She performed the song on "Larry King Live" during a special
broadcast that honored the 12 victims.

ABOUT FRANK STALLONE:
Seldom has a performer been strongly considered for an Academy Award in both acting and
music, yet Frank Stallone has managed to pull it off. His fiery portrayal of a brutish
bartender Eddie in the film Barfly had Hollywood insiders abuzz at Oscar time, and his #1
hit Far From Over, from the film Staying Alive, was likewise touted for a 'Best Song'
nomination. Its all in a days work for Frank a gifted artist who is equally
comfortable on screen or on the concert stage.
This Grammy and Golden Globe nominated artist has been everything from a street singer, a
rock singer, to a big band singer. Frank was also nominated for a Grammy for best
soundtrack and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song from the film Staying Alive. Frank
has written songs for 11 films, and still plays to SRO crowds in arenas and concert halls
from Los Angeles to London.
From the age of five, Frank knew that music would play a dominant role in his life.
I wanted to be a musician and singer from the very first time I opened my
mouth, remembers Frank. I have never for a moment been derailed from that
ambition.
Frank was the first male singer of his generation to switch from pop music to the American
Songbook, in the tradition of Sinatra, Darin and Bennett, leading the way for other
singers such as Harry Connick, Jr., Rod Stewart, Brian Setzer and Michael Buble. Frank has
been touted for his music by such legends as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and four-time
Oscar winner -songwriter Sammy Cahn.
Frank records and performs around the country, and has sung to millions of people over the
years performing his own compositions, and keeping alive the classic works great American
songwriters.
At a young age, the Maryland-born, Philadelphia-raised native pursued his musical
ambitions, forming a series of bands, and finally turning professional at the tender age
of 15 (I had to lie about my age, admits Frank). Frank performed in clubs with
such acts as Bonnie Raitt, Ten Years After, and Blood, Sweat & Tears. Franks
longest-lasting band, Valentine, included lead guitarist John Oates, of Hall & Oates.
As a young man, he left home, and hit the road to seek his musical quest. He worked as a
street musician in NYC singing in the Greenwich Village coffee house scene, sometimes
making five dollars a night or nothing at all. Frank says: It was so cold some
nights, singing on the street, that my fingers would stick to the strings. All I owned
then was my guitar, a collapsible suitcase, and a train ticket to the next town.
Franks group, Valentine, was signed to RCA Records in 1975, and recorded their first
debut album. Frank made his on-screen singing debut, performing the self-penned song, sung
acapella , 'Take You Back', in the opening scene of the film ROCKY. The only reason
I got the part was that I the only musician my brother, Sylvester, knew (and I worked
cheap).
A dream came true for Frank when he teamed up with his lifelong idol, two time Grammy
winner Harry Nilsson, on a remake of Joni Mitchells classic, A Case Of You. The two
remained close friends until Nilssons untimely death in 1994. To add to Franks
musical diversity, he has written and published over 200 songs.
He has recorded a number of American Songbook albums titled In Love In Vain, Frankie And
Billy, and Soft And Low, with legendary arrangers Sammy Nestico and Billy May. He also
recorded albums of his own music, such as Frank Stallone, Full Circle and Songs From The
Saddle.
Frank has also written and recorded compositions for seven films, including Rocky I, II
and III, Rambo II, Paradise Alley and Over The Top. Frank also wrote and recorded 11 songs
for the soundtrack and film Staying Alive, which gained the respect from his industry
peers and critics alike when he received a Golden Globe nomination for 'Best Soundtrack'
and Grammy nomination for Best Original Song, with his single, Far From Over. Frank will
be releasing Stallone On Stallone By Request, a greatest hits collection of all the songs
Frank has written for his brother Sylvesters films.
On the film front, since that auspicious debut in Rocky, Frank has appeared in over 50
movies, including Barfly, Tombstone, Hudson Hawk, Staying Alive, and many others. One of
his most memorable on-screen appearances was his role as Ed Bailey, a dangerous gunslinger
in Tombstone, and as Eddie the bartender in Barfly, which gave rise to serious
consideration for Frank for an Academy Award nomination, and won the acclaim of renowned
film critic Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times. Barfly is a terrific film that
features an outstanding performance by Frank Stallone
hes both captivating and
terrifying at the same time!
On stage Frank is a natural performer. His singing, guitar playing and broad experience of
playing in concert halls all over the world has given him an edge as a performer. I
cant wait to get out there and sing, notes Frank. That same kind of upbeat
anticipation colors every creative endeavor he undertakes. Franks lifelong musical
journey continues, and his enthusiasm for entertaining remains unshaken.

THE COW TELEPHONE.
This story is as true as it's going to get.
Our home used to be in the country, but the city with its malls, banks, gas stations, and
chain stores has swallowed up most of it. The worst trespassers are the huge car
dealerships, that take up the space of the entire forest they bulldozed.
We used to have cows, one pig, some chickens, and a mule right down here on the corner.
Now it's two miles to the nearest cow. And there are a couple of strange things about that
cow field.
There are just two or three cows standing around the field, which is pretty much their
whole career. And there are always those small crane-like birds that follow cows around
like groupies. I don't even want to think about their career.
The first strange thing we noticed was the telephone. In the middle of the pasture,
mounted on a post, is a regular Bellsouth pay phone, with the blue cowl and the Bellsouth
logo on the side.
It's a nice perk, but even if they had spending money, who is a cow going to call? A
lawyer?
And if it rings, which cow answers? I wish I knew the phone number. I'd call from my cell
phone and see who I get.
We've never seen the cows pay any attention to the phone, but, of course, they know we're
watching.
The last time we drove out that way there was a new addition to the strangeness... A sign
that said this: "No Mooing".

Stardust Records
As the new year approaches, we would like to give you an
update regarding Stardust and its new pricing and ventures.
First, we want to thank everyone who has supported Stardust musically and personally
through all the years, especially this year. It means so much to us here. Buster was
always thinking and coming up with new ideas, new ventures for the independent artists and
we feel we are keeping in that. He also wanted to make these new ventures affordable for
the independent artist. Below you will see our compilation pricing for 2007, as well as a
new venture for Stardust and ALL independent artists.
Compilation price: $300 per song (every other month) The price still includes the
promotions by Barbara Doss Promotions as well as tracking sheets mailed to the artist for
the two months the song is released. We feel releasing every two months gives the song a
chance for plenty of airplay. With mailing time involved as well as the fact that the DJs
receive so many CDs, it gives them time to put the songs into rotation. Also with finances
for independent artists, it can give the artist 2 years worth of airplay off one 12-song
cd, instead of just one year or less, which again saves the artist money.
Studio prices: We are currently reworking our studio prices with our studio and musicians
to come up with a little bit more affordable price for the independent artists. Stay tuned
for these upcoming prices. You will still be receiving the best in Nashville production,
recording and musicians.
NEW: CAMSTAR VIDEO PRODUCTIONS! We are currently working with CAMSTAR Video Productions on
affordable pricing so the independent artist can afford to make their own videos, whether
it be a music video or a video performance for promotional purposes. We are in the process
of working on a video with one of our artists to be out shortly so you can see the quality
that you will be receiving.
Again, looking forward to 2007 and what it brings for all of us! Jamboree by the lake is
just around the corner as well! Mark your calendars, August 31, September 1 and September
2. We are already receiving numerous phone calls and emails regarding return performances
as well as new performances.
Remember: Dont look back, just look toward the future! See you in 2007!

 (Columbus, NC)
- American Bluegrass band, Special Consensus, is embarking on their 10th
tour through Ireland after beginning bi-annual tours of the country in the early 1990s.
Bandleader Greg Cahill was exposed to traditional Irish music at a young age from his
Grandfather, whose family came to America from the region between Killarney and Cork.
Cahill believes that they are so well received because of the close similarities in
instrumentation between traditional Irish music and bluegrass. "Bluegrass music is
very well received in Ireland because it seems those people feel it is a bit of their
music coming back to them. They brought their music to America and we have integrated many
of their tunes and melodies into our traditional music. We are then bringing those
melodies back to them with our slight timing differences with slightly different
instrumentation."
These similarities have led to Cahill lending his talents on the American banjo to many
Irish music recording sessions throughout the years. Through this interaction with Irish
musicians, the band has been able to add Irish songs to their repertoire. The Special
Consensus have included several Irish songs on their recordings including a medley of two
songs written by Mel Cory (from Lurgan) and "Josie's Reel" written by Niall
Toner (the Niall Toner Band) which will be included on their new release, Trail of Aching
Hearts, that will be commercially available on April 17th.
Ireland's exposure to bluegrass music isn't limited to touring American bands.
International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) members Richard and Carol Hawkins, who
reside in the Dublin area, have started the Bluegrass Ireland Newsletter (http://www.bluegrassireland.150m.com/ )
and have created the Bluegrass Ireland Blog (www.bluegrassireland.blogspot.com).
These websites help keep the people of Ireland informed about bluegrass news and events in
Ireland as well as in Europe and the USA.
Special Consensus' tour includes appearances on the Allen Simpson Show on the BBC January
10th at 3:00 PM and The Frank Mitchell Show on U105FM on January 11th at 11:00 AM.
Special Consensus' tour dates include:
