MKOC News
Sept. 9, 2005 |
| Hi All, I've been AOL for quite some time now and there's tons of news to
catch up on. I'm going to post the most recent news first and then will work on the rest
of last month's news as soon as I can. There's only over 160 emails with news, so have
patience with me.. LOL.. this is a lot to get out all at once.
Hurricane Katrina
As most of you know, we were planning a Child Alert Benefit
to be held next month in Nashville. Due to the dire need of so many left homeless and
scattered about the country, this benefit is being held back and will hopefully take place
next spring. My sources tell me there are nearly 10,000 displaced persons being brought
into Nashville. They need all the help any of us can manage to give.
We've all seen the horrific remains of Hurricane Katrina..
and there are at least 3 more hurricanes brewing at this very moment. I encourage all to
donate whatever you can. If you don't have spare change, maybe you can donate some unused
clothing, kitchenware, whatever you have to spare, the folks from Louisiana, Mississippi
and Alabama can use it. Let's not forget the pets that have been rescued.. they have needs
as well.
Just remember to be wise with your donations. Don't fall
prey to abuse websites that would bilk you and the needy of your money, not to mention
your identify. Only donate to organizations you know are legitimate. There are many
artists who are donating proceeds of their sales to help. All of those listed here are
good and honest folks and I trust them completely and it also gives you something back for
the money you send so everyone wins, but you use your own judgement as to how and where
you donate.
Latest Hurricane News from CNN
Ophelia regains hurricane strength and could make landfall
in South Carolina on Monday or Tuesday, says National Hurricane Center.

Actor Bob Denver, 70, of TV's "Gilligan's Island" fame lost his battle
to cancer at the age of 70. Prior to his best known role as "Gilligan", Mr.
Denver was the well known beatnick, Mainard G. Crebbs on the "Dobie Gillis"

CMA NOMINEES
ANNOUNCED
As reported in Stuart Cameron's Hot Disc News
The nominees have been announced for the prestigious country music "oscars"
taking place in America later this year. Here are the main listings - for more
information, go to the CMA website. Keith Urban is nominated in several categories once
again, but if he wins any gongs don't expect his British record label EMI to publicize the
fact because, remember, Keith does not want to be connected with country music!!!
So if he does win something how embarrassing will that be for "rock" star Keith?
Let's hope that the awards go to people who are PROUD to be considered country, and not to
Keith who clearly hates being connected with this genre of music. It amazes me how this
Jekyll and Hyde character has the nerve to even attend the CMA Awards - let alone accept
his nominations - when he openly endorses his record company's stance on making sure he is
not regarded as country on this side of the pond.

Bobby MountainCONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU
HAVE BEEN NOMINATED FOR ONE OR MORE AWARDS! PLEASE LET YOUR FANS AND FAMILY KNOW TO VOTE
FOR YOU EVERY DAY IN SEPTEMBER ON THE BALLOT AT WWW.DIXIEBROADCASTING.COM
You have been nominated in the following categorie(s):
Male Artist of the Year
Southern Mainstream Artist of the Year
Up & Coming Artist of the Year
Subject: Dixie Outfitters Southern Heritage Music Awards 2005
Last years first-ever Southern Heritage Music Awards was a resounding success for
everyone associated with the Southern Movement
and especially for our artists. This
years Awards program is even bigger than last years and is, again, being
produced by DixieBroadcasting, the first radio station (now, network) in the world
dedicated exclusively to todays Southern Movement.
The official title sponsor of this years Southern Heritage Music Awards is Dixie
Outfitters, the premier Southern heritage clothier in the world! The other primary
sponsors of the Awards are the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Atlantic Bullion & Coin,
and The Hunt for Confederate Gold!
As last year, the Awards process will include two phases: 1) A preliminary round of voting
to be conducted through the end of September. In this round of voting, anyone may visit
the station's website at www.DixieBroadcasting.com and cast a vote every single day for
nominees in each of twelve different categories. The vote count will be continuously
available during this first round; and the nominees will be narrowed down in each category
to five finalists. 2) The final round will be held during the first several weeks of
October, during which anyone may again vote in each category every day; however, the vote
count will not be revealed in this round until the LIVE awards ceremony which will be
broadcast on DixieBroadcasting (date TBA).
There are two main purposes for beginning to hold an annual "Southern Heritage Music
Awards." First of all, those artists who labour to produce the quality music that we
in the Southern Movement have come to enjoy will now be recognised for their efforts and,
hopefully, encouraged to continue to produce quality new work each year. Since the awards
will recognize new work each year by the artists and groups, it will constantly motivate
all of our artists to provide new material for the Movement. Secondly, though, we hope
that the recognition given to our artists will also provide a catalyst to get more young
people involved in using their musical talents for the Southern Cause, instead of thinking
that Nashville, New York, and Motown are the only options.
In connection with these goals, DixieBroadcasting is also proud to announce the release of
a second "best of" musical CD, featuring songs from some of our most requested
artists at DixieBroadcasting! This new CD, entitled "Southron Anthology Volume
II" will be available for pre-order on the DixieBroadcasting website beginning on the
day of the Awards balloting. Funds derived from the sale of the CD will go towards
purchasing high-quality etched glass awards for the winners, as well as our efforts to
further promote the artists and the station. We will be sending out complimentary CD's to
"friendly" small country radio stations around the South, in an effort to get
our artists' music some much-deserved airplay on traditional radio stations. Each CD
insert will include the contact information for each artist on the CD. It is our belief
that the quality music being produced by our artists in the Southern Movement today is a
very refreshing sound that will be welcomed by many Southerners who listen to such
stations and have regional pride in the South. If you know of such stations, please
contact us at DixieBroadcasting with the station's address and phone number.
For the South,
Ray McBerry, President

THINKWALKING.
I took a walk today and these are some of the things I thought about.
We have a light in our refrigerator, but it goes off when you open the door.
If they can make sex a whole course in schools, there must be more to it than I thought.
The decline of show business: The audience has taken over the show, e.g. reality TV shows,
karaoke, etc.. They'd rather watch each other than watch professional entertainers. Why
not take take Merle Haggard's voice off a record and let a drunk sing it?
They'd rather listen to a DJ than real musicians. They prefer those silly and unreal
"reality" TV shows, over good stories with good actors. Maybe it's a decline of
imagination.
I'm glad the elections are behind us. I had to go back on my anti-depressants. No
republican was safe around me.
We seem to fight each other, but what we're really fighting against is change.
I write songs because I have to. It's not my job. It's who I am.
We spend a lot of effort picking out material things that will hide our true selves.
A song has been running through my head all day. It's one I wrote a long time ago. The
chorus goes like this:
"If I had a time machine
To take me back to New Orleans,
We could play those old love scenes again.
I wish I may. I wish I might
Have no more lonely days and nights.
Everything would be all right
If I had a time machine."

Rustie Blue has released the third single off of her Chip Chip CD titled, Tomorrow
Tonight. The song was written by Deborah Allen and Bill Anderson (who is also
Rusties duet partner on Chip Chip). This mid-tempo ballad is about a
couple getting together for the very first time and not worrying about anything else but
that moment.
Rustie Blue was also in Country Weekly, again! The August 1 issue mentions in the Scene
and Heard section that Rustie & Bill Anderson won the ECMA "Vocal Collaboration

Rustie as the Artist of Interest for their August/September issue. Fans can listen to song
clips and read more about Rustie in the feature!
After recently parting ways with Bluesprings Music Group, Rustie Blue has signed a new

Ann-Marita
Australias
Ann-Marita has released the second single, "Alive and Kickin'", from her
self-titled CD. Ann-Marita says she wrote "Alive and Kickin'" "like it was
about a relationship breakup. What really inspired it was getting out of a bad recording
contract! I realized that I was finally free to live my life again, and make my own
choices, and I wrote "Alive And Kickin'" as a celebration of life and
independence." "Alive and Kickin'" can be found on WHP #58 and on NFS
Publicity #100 in Australia.
One reviewer called "Alive And Kickin" "
a 'cant hold me
down' declaration that will stir the blood of 'Hell-Yeah' girls everywhere
"!
This song, with its driving rock beat, pumping bass and bluesy harmonica has had listeners
draw comparisons to both classic Rolling Stones and country rocker Wynonna Judd.
Ann-Maritas powerhouse voice delivers this 3-minute anthem of rediscovered
independence with unshakable conviction.
Norwegian-born singer/songwriter Ann-Marita has captured a world-wide audience with her
2004 self-titled album. Her diverse background in four countries on three continents gives
her a wealth of experience for her writing. While she grew up listening to Dolly Parton,
Johnny Cash, and Kenny Rogers, her influence by other musical styles, like rock and blues,
color the sound that is so unique you instantly know its her.
Ann-Marita describes her debut CD as being about "growing up, and having to do it a
little faster than expected. Its about heartbreak, survival and finding your place
in the world
When someone tells me that they were moved by one of my songs,
I
know that Ive hit the mark." Ann-Marita wrote all of the songs for her
self-titled album.
Ann-Marita has already traveled around the world, going to school and performing. She was
born and raised on a farm in the Norwegian mountains. She then spent many years living in
a small mining community north of the Arctic Circle. At fifteen, she spent a year living

Ken Overcast
Greetings from the Real West. Here's just a quick note to catch you up on the
news around our camp.
First our so called monthly drawing sometimes gets a little behind. Sorry about that.
Granny used to say, 'The road to hell is paved with good intentions.' I have certainly
contributed my share to the paving crew lately, but we do have a new winner.
Lesley Neuman of
Rescue, California is the name that came out of the hat this time. Lesley will be
receiving an autographed copy of 'Yesterday's Yarns' and a one year's subscription to
American Cowboy Magazine, compliments of the fine folks at www.americancowboy.com
If you haven't signed up for our drawing for a while, here's the address: http://www.kenovercast.com/CDSignUp/cdform.html
We just returned from a little tour out west where we did several shows in Oregon, Idaho
and western Montana, and that was a real blast. Special thanks are due to David Nelson and
the crew at KWVR in Enterprise, Oregon and Tommy Tucker and the folks
at KRLC in Lewiston, Idaho. Their support of all things western is amazing.
Our book,
'Shootin' the Breeze, Cowboy Style' is in the middle of the printing process, and we're
really excited for the first shipment to come rolling in here. We'll be sure to let you
know when that happens.
Our radio
affiliates for 'The Cowboy Show' continue to grow, and we're sure thankful for that. I
think the number is over sixty now from coast to coast. Folks all over the place are
getting to hear some real cowboy music, and their lovin' it.
If we can send
some music or a book your way, just give us a call toll free at 1-888-753-7611. The gals
will fix you right up.
I've gotta run.
Remember to Keep Smilin'.....

Aldo Calabrese
Hello everyone,
I wanted to send this email out personally to first, say thanks to the many fans and radio
stations around the country who helped make my current single, "Open Road", a
great success, as it remains a #1 hit on Independent country music charts for the third
consecutive week. We have received many emails from all over the world with support of
this album and are working hard to get it released as soon as possible.
Also, as hundreds of victims are pouring into Nashville shelters, myself and those within
my organization are doing all we can to help. I have placed a link at the bottom of my web
site's home page to Hurricanehousing.org. This organization is helping
those devastated in New Orleans and surrounding areas find shelter where available
throughout the United States. If you, or anyone you know has a spare house, room, couch,
bed or anything else to provide hurricane evacuees with temporary shelter, please click on
the link provided to post your message.
Thanks and may God bless you all.

Corbin/HannerWe all hope
everyone had a good summer and now that it's time to get back to work, you might be
looking for a relaxing cruise on the river this Saturday, Sept. 10th. We'll be playing on
the Majestic again and would love for you to join us. You can get tickets by calling
412-355-7980 or online at www.gatewayclipper.com
The show starts around 8:00 PM after the boat has left the dock. If you haven't been on
the cruise before, you're sure to enjoy it. If you have been, you know how much fun it can
be --
On another note, we'll be donating a portion of the proceeds of all merchandise sales that
night to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief. We were lucky to avoid any
widespread damage this year from the giant hurricane, but we all remember what happened
last year. Please join us on Saturday night.
Also, we have only two concerts left for the year -- on Saturday, Sept. 24th we'll be at
the Elk County Fairgrounds for the annual "Elk Expo". There are lots of
interesting things to do and see in the area. We'll be sending a flyer on special pricing
for rooms, etc. before the end of the week. It would make a nice "get away"
weekend. The fairgrounds are north of Pittsburgh near Cook's Forest. It's a beautiful
area.
Our final show for the year will be at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg, PA. We're doing a
special Halloween show on Oct. 29th with Vanessa Campagna opening the show. The Palace is
a grand showplace and we're sure you will enjoy the evening. Tickets are available at the
Palace Theatre office or you can go online at www.thepalacetheatre.org
.
Hope to see you Saturday night!
Bob and Dave
Note from Marli: FYI... Corbin/Hanner perform in the
Pittsburg, PA area which includes parts of Ohio and West Virginia.. just in case you were
wondering where these show dates are held.

Katrina and ID Theft Issues
© 2005 SecurityProNews
John Stith
For almost two weeks now, we've heard about the cataclysmic devastation brought on by the
havoc of Hurricane Katrina. While no price can be put on the human loss both in lives and
in memories, history, etc., another issue in all this tragedy is the ongoing problem of
identity theft.
