BIG AL
ILL
Country-Soul legend Big Al Downing has been hospitalized in Massachusetts,
reports his wife of 27 years, Beverly. Recently diagnosed with Acute
Lymphoblastic Leukemia, the singer with the big voice, the big smile and the
big heart will begin chemotherapy treatment immediately.
Best known for his hits, "Mr. Jones" and "Touch Me," Downing's impact
on the
country genre is far- reaching. His music, a soul-based, "true" country
sound, has won this veteran songwriter, musician and performer fans around
the globe. A recipient of Billboard's New Artist of the Year and Single of
the Year in 1979, his lengthy career is a testament to his many talents. In
2003, he released the critically- acclaimed CD, ONE OF A KIND, and was
recording tracks for an upcoming CD when stricken with this illness. A
beloved entertainer, Downing has continued to perform over 75 key dates per
year, and recently appeared at Ontario's prestigious Havelock Country
Jamboree with Kenny Rogers and Roy Clark. Plans for his upcoming European
tour have been put on hold.
The family respectfully requests no telephone calls at this time, but cards
and best wishes may be sent to:

Nashville Star Winner, Miranda Lambert

Miranda's first CD released on the Sony label, "Kerosene" is now available!
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Serious artists don't usually get discovered via TV talent shows, but this 21-year-old
former Nashville Star finalist has become an important songwriter and vocalist with her
debut album, Kerosene, which immediately sprang to the top of the country charts. Overall,
it's a set of amiable country pop, but the title track and "What About
Georgia?," which open the disc, are rock songs at heart--driven by a hard-smacked
snare drum and layers of guitar. But what's really at the core of these excellent
performances is Lambert's romantic lyrics and versatile singing. When she's playing the
angry lover in "Kerosene," she's loaded with punky attitude. When she's
brokenhearted and moving on in "New Strings," her soft, delicate tones and
gentle phrasing perfectly capture a rich blend of sadness and hope. There's even a bit of
Dolly Parton's sweet vibrato and rustic charm in "Me and Charlie Talking," a
nostalgic contemplation on love and life's simple virtues. Lambert authored or co-penned
11 of Kerosene's dozen tunes, but what she's really written is the first chapter in what
may be a long, impressive career. --Ted Drozdowski

| NARI RECORDS is proud to announce the
release of the new CD, BECCA. This new CD follows the success in England, Scotland,
Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Australia,
New Zealand, Canada and the United States of BECCAs first single DOZEN ROSES, a duet
with STAN PERKINS, son of rock-a-billy legend Carl Perkins. On this CD she not only belts
out, caresses and sweet talks 12 solo tunes, but makes magic on duets with two of
musics legends Dozen Roses, with Stan Perkins, son of rock-a-billy
legend Carl Perkins, and Blue Note, with music legend Delaney Bramlett (Delaney and Bonnie
- Never Ending Song Of Love).
Her first CD is titled simply BECCA because it introduces not only a singer but a sound
thats all Becca. Shes an LA girl who loves Country, so naturally the Becca
sound starts with solid Country. Then she blends in everything thats crazy-good
about Blues, Soul, Folk, Gospel and Rock and comes out with a unique sound Becca calls, LA
Country.
Forget the mechanical bull. Get on the Becca wild ride through 14 new songs and experience
everything from a screamin Texas Hurricane to a gentle breeze blowing through the
Family Tree. Her versatile voice will break your heart in Time to Pretend and touch your
soul with Broken Wings. She and Delaney sound like they were both born to sing Blue Note
and Stan Perkins and Becca will make you swear you can smell a Dozen Roses.
Becca is backed up by a stellar band that gives flawless resonance to each unique
arrangement, from the Country pop of Second Chance, to the folk rock of Autumn Eyes. If
you like your music real, sweet, soulful and slammin, Beccas a slam-dunk.

From our scrapbook...

In a Nashville studio with our friend, the great Joel Mathis.
This may have been in the early 1980's. We have produced many recording artists, but Joel
was the cream of the crop. In this picture we're listening to the playback of his session.

MY DREAMS AND AMBITIONS.
Everybody should have a dream or a life's ambition. Something to look forward to. I have
several:
To hypnotize a chicken and make it walk like a person.
To get back to my original weight... 7 pounds, 8 ounces.
To adopt an adult Korean.
To open a string of "Chicken In the Casket" restaurants.
To twist my neighbors dog into a balloon animal.
To play "Flight of the Bumblebee" on musical breast implants.
To spray WD-40 on a canary's perch and see it hang like a bat.
To teach a squirrel to yodel.
To follow a police car and make him nervous.
To sing "My Way" to an imaginary ferret.
To get my elbows pierced so I can wear cufflinks with a short-sleeved shirt.
And then,
to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather...
not yelling and screaming, like the passengers in his car.
Jack Blanchard

CAN THEY RUIN OUR MUSIC?
No.
Classical music isn't dead. Folk music isn't either. Hawaiian, Polka, and Jazz are still
there for people who want to listen. They don't generate the revenue that popular airplay
brings, but, as art forms they still exist. They can not be "ruined".
We have the right to turn off what we don't like, and turn on whatever we want. It's
available on CD's, records, tapes, internet and satellite radio, and on and on.
All music is the result of change from other forms. There are elements of Western European
music in the earliest Country.
Some people hate change even if it's good. It's not all good.
The value of the music depends upon the talent and motives of the people making it. If
it's just stale and hack written, needing fireworks to sell it, and the main motive is
profit, it is probably junk.
It's OK for music to change a little once in a while, just to keep our eyes from crossing
out of boredom.
But, it should change naturally and gently.
Your favorite old music is still there for those who want to hear it. I know I do.
It's just nice to have a choice. I'm for keeping all the good things about Country music
intact, but adding a new idea here and there... exercising our music muscles, to keep them
from getting brittle.
Main stream country music is in a state of stagnation. I think this is part of the
problem: The originality is missing.
It's hard to tell who's singing without a program.

Jaci RaeThe Rae of
Hope words of wisdom for your career
If
you've ever felt like your career was heading for a train wreck and didn't know where to
turn, look no further than your own mirror. While you will find there are many people in
the industry who will help you once you've succeeded, it's a far cry sometimes for anyone
to help you when you are climbing up a ladder that sways in the wind and each rung seems
like it's going down instead of up.
The biggest inspiration you can have to avoid a career collision is to get up, look
yourself in eye in your mirror and remember the classic children's book, "I Think I
can, I think I can, I know I can, I know I can." From "The Little Train That
Could." Say to yourself when you are looking in that mirror that You Can do it! You
will do! And then get out of your comfort zone and DO it!
Then start looking on the Internet for local musicians meetings to begin your networking
today. Build your list of potential supporters one hand shake at a time. Get to know the
people who may play a potential role in your future on a personal level. Every one at the
top, didn't start there. The next hand you shake, may be the person who in the future
plays a pivotal role in your careers success. Good luck! Jaci Rae - The Rae of Hope

RUSTIE BLUE - "TOMORROW
TONIGHT" Sound Byte

Rustie Blue has recorded a bit about the story
behind "Tomorrow Tonight" and how the song ended up in her hands. It is
available via MP3 from Laura Claffey at wildfirepublicity@comcast.net.
Tomorrow Tonight is Rustie Blue's third single off of her Chip Chip cd titled.
The song was written by Deborah Allen and Bill Anderson (who is also Rusties duet
partner on Chip Chip). This mid-tempo ballad is about a couple getting
together for the very first time and not worrying about anything else but that moment.
Tomorrow Tonight can be found on Chi HotDisc #79 and Mark Trail on M-T-M #12.
Praise is already pouring in about Tomorrow Tonight. Stuart Cameron of Country
Music Roundup says that Tomorrow Tonight is
one of the highlights
from Rustie Blue's current album, "Chip Chip," and is without a doubt one of her
finest vocal performances of her career to date... Hot-N-Gold out of London and BBC
Radio Lancashire have already picked up the song.
MP3s of Tomorrow Tonight, a copy of the Chip Chip album, interviews, & photos
available to the media by request.

Rarely is a country gospel artist this sweet, this feeling, this moving beyond belief.
Anne's elegance, emotion and ringing vocals lead these wonderful country songs with pure
heart and soul. "This Love I Feel" flows with such ease that it echoes love
coming to life. Classic while remaining fresh and original, Anne's music will be spreading
smiles and good feelings for all who stop to be touched by it.

| My
pal, Bob Kelso and I were commiserating with each other about similar woes and then he
sent me this little Native American story. It's SO true that I just had to share it with
y'all. One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson
about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between 2 "wolves" inside us all.
One is Evil.
It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt,
resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good.
It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy,
generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which
wolf wins the battle?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
