7-7-05 Hannity Freedom Concert
July 21, 2005
Well, I can't believe I did what I did! I thought I was SO on the
ball when I finally completed the news on Sunday, the 17th... and as it turns out, I
forgot to tell "Zinester" to "post" it. Ugh! I'm so blonde it's
scarin' me! Anyway, I hope the news wasn't too late.. time-wise that is. I know many items
submitted are about a particular date, time and place so if someone got overlooked by that
news not being posted until today, I'm so very sorry.. honestly.
I do have some good news as well. I have worked all week
recreating the "Hidden Talent" section of MKOC and I hope you'll all take some
time out to visit the new, improved pages. There are now song clips for all pages lacking
one, the ladies' page and that will be done next. There's an entire page dedicated to
Martin Delray, one of my all time favorite country singers, plus three pages many more
artists who aren't well known to the general public but had a little more than 15 minutes
of fame shinin' on them... and still deserve the recognition of a shining STAR! All pages
have CDs and music files included. Please visit them all at:
MKOC's Hidden Talent

Where will country music be in 5 years?
Like Johnny Carson who had his alter ego "The Amazing Carnac" who could see into
the future, we are sure that many of you Artists, DJ's and others in the independent
country music business also have that ability or at least are willing to make an educated
guess as to where we will all be in 5 years. You can give the big picture overview or just
make a small prediction on one segment of the business and how you think it will be
I realize this is a complex issue and after you read other peoples entries it will remind
you of something you forgot so just POST yours as (Your Name) like Joe Smith Predictions
and say what you want to say and then you are welcome to come back later and add (Your
Name) Joe Smith Predictions Update.
This should be an interesting subject and your predictions can be as serious or as funny
as you want to make them. Maybe we should burn them all to a CD and bury them in a time
capsule to be opened in 5 years (Of course someone is bound to predict there won't be any
CD's in 5 years so that could be a problem)
Anyway give it some thought and come up with your "Where Will Independent Country
Music Be In 5 Years and POST BELOW!

"Don't It Make You Wanna Go Home"
on Stardust Records
The writer sits by the open window in his comfortable room,
his feet propped up on the sill.
He holds a yellow legal pad and a felt tipped pen.
This is what he writes:
"Twilight in the afternoon.
Only two o'clock, but looking more like seven.
Cold front moving in.
Big soft raindrops begin slapping down random leaves
on the bush that leans against the window.
The tempo of the rain picks up.
The local bluejays complain hoarsely.
Or maybe they think they're singing.
Now the breeze turns to wind,
and the trees are thrashing around.
It begins to rain on your feet.
Feeling rugged and outdoorsy, you defy the elements.
The feet stay!
Suddenly, unexpected lightning, and then thunder.
Wow! The feet come down.
Rain splotches appear on your writing paper,
and the blowing curtains drape over your head,
creating a Mona Lisa effect.
From somewhere across the lake, a train whistle.
A sound often described as "lonesome",
but more like "unrestful".
A moving sound, a signal to the wanderer inside us.
You turn on the lamp and security fills the room.
The sky and lake are a lighter gray now.
You reopen the window.
The rain is letting up, mostly just the eaves dripping.
A squirrel checking out the wet garage roof.
The air smells different now:
Washed vegetation, damp wood, supper cooking.
And it's colder.
The feet return to the windowsill
in fuzzy socks from the bottom of the drawer.
A rainstorm is not bad from the inside, looking out.
You recall other dark stormy days, in bleak, hopeless places.
You were alone, cold, and it was no fun."
(That is all he puts on paper because his eyes are closed.
He dozes off.)
The cop says, "Come on. You can't sleep here".
He's lying on cement, covered with a large piece of cardboard.
He opens his eyes and sees the inside of a parking garage.
There are oil spots in the empty parking spaces.
He says: "What the hell?"
The cop nudges him with his nightstick. "Come on, buddy. Let's go."
He struggles to his feet, aching all over.
"I gotta get home", he says. "My wife's cooking supper."
The policeman says: "Uh-huh".
Out on the pavement he tries to get his bearings.
The street is lined with old warehouses and dirty brick buildings.
Some of the second story windows have old shades,
or shreds of curtain, as though somebody once lived there.
The sky is clouded over gray. No telling what time it is.
It looks like rain.
He picks a direction at random and starts walking,
collar turned up against the wind,
hands deep in his pockets in search of warmth.
A paper cup blows along the gutter.
He thinks about the dream he had before the cop woke him up.
Something about a warm house, and the smell of dinner cooking.
He feels for a wallet, knowing it wouldn't be there.
There is some change in his pocket, and a half-smoked cigarette.
By long habit, he's looking for the edge of the city,
so he can hitch a ride to a smaller town
where help is easier to get.
Big cities don't care.
He's almost across the city when the rain starts and the chill sets in.
He spends some of his change on coffee at a Burger King,
and is now entering the suburbs.
The storm comes up fast and he ducks into a doorway.
Lightning, and then thunder, almost at once. That was close!
Now he's cold and wet.
He's not going to make it out of town tonight.
He's got to find a place to get out of the weather.
He leaves the doorway and turns down a tree lined side street,
with a small lake on the left, and sturdy old houses on the right.
Lights are on in some of the windows.
It must be nice.
Across the lake he sees some boathouses
that might help him get dry.
This street probably goes right around there.
He sees a house that looks strangely familiar.
Maybe a look-alike from his mostly forgotten past.
Now he sees the first person he's really looked at all day.
There's a guy in an open window with his feet up on the sill,
in this weather! He must be nuts!
It's been raining on his feet, and he's sound asleep!
The curtains have blown up around his head,
like some kind of a bandanna.
He turns and walks away, shaking his head at the stupidity,
On a day like this,
if you have a window,
you should close it.

KNOW WHAT IM SAYIN?
Let me ax you a question.
Why are we ruining a perfectly good language
The news readers on TV and radio used to speak correct English. Now they mangle it. So do
politicians, and the judges on the court TV programs. Maybe we need better role models.
Ignorance has become hip.
Realtor is pronounced real-ter. Not real-a-tore.
Comptroller is said the same as controller. Not
Nuclear is not nucular.
Jewelry is jewel-ry, not joolery.
And on and on.
Maybe it annoys me because I was made to learn right way in grammar school. And maybe
thats why they called it grammar school.
If I said aint, I was in trouble. Now I just use it in some songs.
Whats wrong with this sentence? If Id of knowed I could of rode I would
of went. Everything! And yet I hear stuff like that every day from people who have
gone to college.
Our language is the best way to communicate with each other, outside of ESP and petting.
It also gives others their impression of us. Its an asset to not sound dumb.
I hear some strange language corruptions like saying shtreet for
street. Where did that come from?
People with limited vocabularies are forced to express their feelings and ideas with swear
words, or repeating stale expressions like Totally awesome!
Many people say they either love or hate things. Nothing in between.
My teachers and family put a lot of pressure on me to learn our language, so I dont
want to be the only one talking this way.
Know what Im sayin?

Rustie Blue is
once again gracing the pages of Country Weekly! Country Weekly's August 1 issue mentions
in the Scene and Heard section that Rustie & Bill Anderson won the ECMA "Vocal
Collaboration Of The Year" for "Chip Chip", their hit duet. The issue has
George Strait on the cover, and is on news-stands now.
Country Weekly isn't the only publication catching on. Music City News has Rustie as the
Artist of Interest for their August/September issue. Fans can listen to song clips and
read more about Rustie in the feature!
Rustie Blue's "The Devil May Care," is currently at #4 on the Indie World
Country Chart. This sassy, traditional country song is a catchy tune about a relationship
gone bad. "The Devil May Care" can be found on CDX #365 track 15, Mark Trail
Music compilation #10 track 9, and on the April CHi Hotdisc.
Rustie Blue's new single off of her Chip Chip CD is titled Tomorrow Tonight.
The song was written by Deborah Allen and Bill Anderson (who is also Rusties duet
partner on Chip Chip). This mid-tempo ballad is about a couple getting
together for the very first time and not worrying about anything else but that moment.
Tomorrow Tonight can be found on Chi HotDisc #79 and Mark Trail on M-T-M #12.
Rustie Blue is nominated for the 2005 Music Box Country Rising Artist and Outgoing Artist
Awards! She is currently at #8. Winners will be announced in November or December in a
theatre in Paris, France, and will be chosen by votes from fans (80%) and the industry
(20%). Fans can vote at www.musicboxtv.com under Le Top Twenty, and clicking on the
picture of the trophy.
MP3s of Tomorrow Tonight, a copy of the Chip Chip album, interviews, & photos
available by request. Rustie also has a sound byte recorded about the story behind
"Tomorrow Tonight" and how the song ended up in her hands.

Dandy Don Logan
I now have two music CDs out with 44 songs (22 songs per CD) I have written and sing.
CLICK on the link below to see both CDs. Bring them up on your screen and you can listen
to small portions of all the songs.
Mister Stan was my first CD (CAL 1237) and
continues to be my best selling. Ding A Ling Swing (CAL 1238) was my second CD and BLUE IS
THE MOON appears to be the most liked song at present.
NOTE: Don Logan is a senior citizen who sings songs that have a melody. His songs deal
with aging, memories, Louisiana, sister states, youth, love, Indians, child support,
death, the homeless, cars, clowns, lost love, child abuse, animals, and many other
subjects. Most of his songs have a good dance beat. Logan is a former world-famous DJ of
the 50s and 60s and noted record vice-president, producer of the 60s and 70s. He has been
classified by some media as rock and roll, country, pop, crooner, even jazz. Most
recently, he was a child support worker for the State of Louisiana, with counterparts in
each of these United States, who do the same kind of work he did daily. In this day of
hip-hop and rap, it is unusual for an artist like Logan, to gain any national support.
Certain individuals have started street team-grass roots distributorships around the
world, buying the product at wholesale and retailing out in their individual areas.
Thanks for helping me spread the news that these CDs are
