Willie NelsonWILLIE NELSON'S
REGGAE ALBUM
By Stuart Cameron of HotDisc.com
He's been described as an American Treasure and this month Willie
Nelson hits the news once more with an appearance as Uncle Jessie in the film "Dukes
Of Hazzard" and also by releasing his first ever reggae album, ironically called
"Countryman".
He started work on this project 10 years ago when producer Don Was (from the band Was Not
Was) suggested the idea to him. Now Willie loves a challenge and he flew to Jamaica to see
if the project could be a reality. Of course the Bellamy Brothers have been there before
with their reggae-influenced "Reggae Cowboy" track and a number of other songs
with that flavour on their "Sons of Beaches" album, and there have been many
reggaefied country songs such as "Help Me Make It Through The Night" by John
Holt which became a huge hit.
Willie was on Island Records at the time but when he left the label the thought was that
the project would be left on the shelf. But dismiss Willie's ideas at your peril - when
the man says he's gonna do something he will do it! And now the project is ready for
release ten years on after he found the time to complete the album.
What you have is a mixture of his own songs put to a reggae style and some reggae classics
like "The Harder They Come" thrown in for good measure. The result is very good
indeed. This guy can handle anything, and while country fans of the die-hard variety will
frown upon most country artists straying away from their country roots no one would ever
criticize the great Willie Nelson for doing whatever he chooses! After all, Willie is da
man!

Shawn Camp
Shawn Camp has written No. 1 hits for Garth Brooks (Two Pina
Coladas) and the duo Brooks & Dunn (How Long Gone), and his songs
have been cut by everyone from George Strait and Kenny Chesney to Patty Loveless and Randy
Travis.
Now Camp goes public with what Nashville already knows. On Live At The Station Inn, his
first album for Oh Boy Records, the Arkansas native takes an engaging jaunt through his
song catalog with some of the best young bluegrass pickers around along for the journey.
Recorded live and without rehearsal, the album is typical of Camp putting artistry
and creativity on the line for a fun-yet-adventurous evening of high wire acoustic music.

Stacy Dean Campbell Singer, Songwriter Stacy Dean Campbell Takes his music to
a new realm with the release of his first novel, "Cottonwood", which
includes a 12 track CD.
Stacy's newest project has taken his writing to a whole new
level. His debut novel, "Cottonwood" has just been completed and he has penned
and produced a 12 song acoustic "soundtrack", which is included with the book,
entitled "Cottonwood, Songs From A Novel".
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AWARD FINALIST !
Bill Fisher Award for Best First Book-Fiction
Robert K. Oermann - Music Row Magazine, June 2004
Stacy Dean is just as gifted musically as ever. As perfect a country-acoustic gem as
Ive heard all year.
Book Description
In West Texas in the summer of 1937, COTTONWOOD tells the story of two families thrown
together by tragedy and the bounds of racial injustice.
Rube Whitlock is faced with raising his two young sons after the death of his infant
daughter leaves his wife mentally incapacitated with grief and unable to care for them.
Overwhelmed with the responsibility, Rube hires Esther, a local black woman whose husband-
in an attempt to establish himself and his farm as competitive cotton producers- has just
purchased his second mule and ignited a stirring of dissonance and contempt within the
usually quiet community. As Esther's natural maternal presence begins to fill voids in the
Whitlock house and racially charged animosity percolates in the dim-lit bars and shacks
just beneath the community's surface, Rube is forced to choose between the boundaries set
by the laws he has sworn to uphold and the boundaries set by the moral convictions of the
human heart.
Amidst painful pasts beginning to resurface and new secrets freshly buried, it would take
a "knobby-kneed buckskin" mule, a cheap pocket knife and a lifeless COTTONWOOD
tree to form a lasting friendship that would gray the stark lines between black and white
and begin the delicate mending of family ties in the tender heart of a young boy.
"The all acoustic instrumentation shares much of the
same magic and beauty as O' Brother and Down from the Mountain."
" Set in West Texas in the depression year of 1937...Campbell clearly loves this part
of the country and writes it's dialogue beautifully. He also shows a natural gift for
creating tension."
"In both his novel and the CD, Campbell makes the 1930s seem wonderfully
up-to-date."
- PHIL SWEETLAND, American Songwriter

Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan
 TROUBLE BEHIND THE CURTAINS.
Maybe Ive told you about Gordon Leeder before, but he came into my thoughts today
for no apparent reason, and so I tell it again.
Gordon cracked me up! He reminded me, in looks and personality, of Tim Conway. He was
always witty and, looking back, he seemed abnormally happy.
I sort of envied Gordon. He and his wife owned The Star Dry Cleaners on Oliver Street, in
North Tonawanda, New York. I could see his store from my cheap apartment above the bowling
alley across the street. I didnt even own a car.
We played poker about once a week and went to some club meetings together. Gordon cheered
everybody up.
One night Gordon Leeder committed suicide with a shotgun. Nobody seemed to know why.
I was a pallbearer at his funeral, and although that was many years ago, Gordon still pops
into my mind once in a while.
Heres one of the things Ive learned in my life: No matter how good things look
from the outside, there's usually trouble going on behind the curtains.
Now I pay more attention to each person who comes into my life.

THE STORYTELLER.
"This is Tom T. Hall", he said. I think I'd have recognized the voice on the
phone even if he hadn't said his name.
I almost hadn't answered because I couldn't find the phone. I don't keep my music room too
neat.
Once we returned from a tour and found the cops at our house. They said our front door was
open and my studio had been ransacked. I told them: "No. That's just the way I
usually keep it".
Tom T. and I had talked a few times at parties, etc., around Nashville. We had the same
manager, and were on the same label, but we didn't exactly "hang out". In
Nashville we were always too busy to really get to know each other.
I was surprised at the call.
He said he'd been reading a book of mine on a plane. I asked where he'd gotten it. It
wasn't exactly a best seller. He told me somebody on the plane gave it to him. I think he
said it was Loretta Lynn.
The point of the call was this: He wanted me to write the liner notes for his upcoming
album.
I said, "What do you want me to write?" He said, "Just write that kind of
stuff that you write. That's what I want on there."
The album was "We All Got Together And..." (Mercury SR61362.) I'd never heard
the songs, and had no idea what the theme was. The most popular songs from the LP were:
"Me and Jesus", and "The Monkey That Became President". I learned that
later.
I worried about it for about ten minutes, And then wrote the following:
WARNING: DO NOT hold this album under the hot water faucet, because the people living
inside the record might pop out into living 3-D, right there in your kitchen... or even
worse, your bathroom. The crowd might be hard to explain to the landlord.
This same warning applies to any Tom T. Hall record because of his secret recipe for
canning real people
like you and me and Luther Short into plastic discs, without losing the original flavor.
The characters in his songs act completely on their own, sticking up their noses at Mr.
Hall. They couldn't care less if he is stuck without a romantic ending, or an earthshaking
moral. They've got their own troubles,
and they work them out in their own way. Thanks to the miracles of science, we can
eavesdrop in living stereo.
Heroes and beautiful people are the usual favorites of storytellers, but Tom T. finds
poetry in us ordinary hairy-legged mortals, with our petty selfishness, hypocrisy, and
intolerance... our weaknesses, and our occasional goodness.
So, step inside. You're likely to run into yourself somewhere in this record.
And, oh yeah, as I said at the beginning... Keep this record dry, and out of the reach of
children. And please keep Tom T. Hall's picture off the floor if you have pets.

Rustie Blue is
in the Top 5 with "The Devil May Care," the second single off of her Chip Chip

Tomorrow Tonight can be found on Chi HotDisc #79 and Mark Trail on M-T-M #12.
Rustie Blue is nominated for the 2005 Music Box Country Rising Artist and Outgoing Artist
