Rhonda Vincent
April 27, 2005Vincent's "I've Forgotten
You"
Memorable to "After Midnite" Listeners |

|
Nashville, TN - Rounder Records
recording artist, Rhonda Vincent's current single, "I've Forgotten You" made
impressive headway on Premier Radio Networks' nationally syndicated show, After Midnite
scoring high with 76% of the listening audience.
After Midnite has made its mark as a predictor of future hits by polling its listeners
from its 250 affiliated radio stations spread across the nation. Listeners are encouraged
to "Pick It or Flick It" expressing their feelings about new songs. They do so,
sometimes, without mercy. "I've Forgotten You" thrived with the polling
indicating "I've Forgotten You" as a song listeners would like to hear again.
This acceptance fits in with a national trend toward acoustic based music.
With many country recording artists producing bluegrass albums, it's not surprising that
that the woman the Wall Street Journal dubbed "The Queen of Bluegrass" would be
a natural to lead the pack in gravitating attention toward the acoustic genre. She has
stayed true to the format, producing bluegrass albums when advisors were encouraging her
to 'switch to a more radio friendly country style.' She was right. Vincent's "I've
Forgotten You" is the perfect bridge between traditional and contemporary country.
At the recent Country Radio Seminar there was a lot of discussion about how listeners are
looking for more diversity from their country radio stations. The success of songs as
divergent as "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy" and "Whiskey Lullaby" point
to a growing demand for broader play lists. The overwhelming majority of After Midnite
listeners who picked "I've Forgotten You" seem to further substantiate the
possibility that commercial country radio will benefit from programming beyond
mono-stylistic pop country. While "Save A Horse..." and "Redneck
Woman" paved the way for a new in-your-face element of the country format, Rhonda
Vincent's "I've Forgotten You" may well pave the way for a different branch of
high quality, traditional based country, radio listeners are yearning for. Country radio
listeners in Seattle will be getting a taste of the same as Infinity's country powerhouse,
KMPS added the new Vincent track right out of the box.
This trend towards an appreciation for a more acoustic style of music is represented with
more than just radio attention alone. All forms of media are picking up on the trend. The
pop focused magazine, People, reviewed Vincent's current CD/DVD project, "Ragin'
Live" awarding it 3.5 stars out of a possible 4. CNN's Show Biz Tonight took their
praise a step further by stating "This is phenomenal... really one of the top-notch
performers in country and bluegrass. If you don't know who she is and you're thinking
about maybe expanding your tastes a little bit, this is an amazing album to pick up. It
was recorded live last August and it's just absolute perfection on every cut."This type of across the board support portends a resurgence of
traditional based country in mainstream media.

* BIRTHDAY BASH COVERAGE
=========================================
Wade certainly appreciated his notebook of birthday messages from around the world and all
the cards that you sent. You about covered me up with the e-mails (and I loved it). I was
still printing out half an hour after I had planned to leave for the party. The
inspiration to design the cover "From Around the World" came from those messages
we received from Australia, Canada, South Korea, Germany and Hong Kong, as well as all
those from all over this country.
The music was amazing. It's really fun to watch Wade step in with a group of musicians and
blend right in. We know how well he can pick and that's something the other musicians
always acknowledge and appreciate. We know his baritone voice well, too, but he has quite
a vocal range. He sings harmony extremely well with other singers, including high harmony
parts.
It was a great evening of music and fun. Coverage - pictures, playlist and review have
been added to the Gallery page on the web site.

co-written by One Mile South's guitarist, Gary Bunning, also made it into the finals.
Tim, who co-wrote nine of the 11 songs on the album, has been recognized previously for
his songwriting. He has been nominated for five European Country Music Awards (ECMA's) and

Here is what the music industry and Country radio are saying about One Mile South:
"...the group the rest of the country will soon be talking about!" (KKNG-FM,

"Macho sounding. I dug the whole thing, from his expressive baritone to the rumbling
rhythm section. Sounds to me like these guys deserve a major-label shot." (Robert K
Oermann, music critic, Music Row Magazine)

of them.... If our phones are any indication, these guys are in for one heck of a
career." (Lisa Johnson, KBCN Radio, Middays, MD/APD, Harrison, AK)
"One Mile South was definitely the indie artist of the year at KMGO!... three weeks
on the KMGO top 10 weekly countdown making them the ONLY Indie artist to reach #1. Their

JIMMIE WILSON TO RELEASE DEBUT CD Jimmie Wilson will release his debut album, What Else Could Go Right, on May
3. The album includes his debut single, What Else Could Go Right, a song that
takes the what else could go wrong frustration and turns it around into what
goes right when youre happy with your surroundings and the moment youre in; a
moment in which you can only explain in an upbeat heartfelt song. What Else Could Go
Right will be on Mark Trails radio comp disc #11, due out in mid-May.
Jimmie Wilson is from the small town of Pine Knot, Kentucky, on the Tennessee border. He
briefly attended the University Of Cincinnati, where he studied chemistry, with a minor in
music. At 22, Jimmie has been singing professionally for about 5 years. He has performed
at various venues, including the Children's Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, the Hamilton
County Fair, the Allen County Fair, the Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation, and many
more. He names George Strait, Alan Jackson, Tracy Lawrence, and Martina McBride as
influences.
Jimmie Wilson, being a young country artist, has taken a different approach to the style
of his career. Jimmie has a soft spot for children's foundations nationwide. Having
survived the irregularities of child birth, Jimmie understands the medical difficulties
which can arise from the birth of a child. He is very involved with the Make a Wish
Foundation and the Childrens Hospital of Jackson.
Jimmie Wilson brings hard work and dedication to the art of creating music. "It's not
every day you get to change how a person feels in three minutes from a song," says
Jimmie. He strives to keep fans standing throughout his entire show. With his seven piece
band, Jimmie brings the stage to life as he steadily embarks on a career which is sure to
continue.
What Else Could Go Right is already being played around the world, from New
Zealand to the UK to France. The album will be available for sale at various online
stores, including CDBaby.com, AudioStreet.com, and SoundClick.com, as well as regular
retail stores.

Happy
Birthday, Jack! |

THE KING O HEARTS CLUB.
A million years ago
I was playing in a rhythm and blues band
at the King o' Hearts Club on NW 7th Avenue in Miami.
The band was called "Donel Austin and the Rockin' Impallas".
I later made a record with them under the name
Jackie Blanchard and the Rockin' Impallas.
I won't say the guy that owned the place was a mobster.
I won't say it because he might kill me.
Let's just call him Johnny.
He had the mandatory smaller brother Pauly.
We had a great band...
Donel Austin, rhythm guitar and lead vocalist,
Doug Tarrant, lead guitar,
and Frank Kennedy on drums.
I played piano, organ, and left hand bass.
The club was like an airplane hangar.
We faced the long oval shaped bar.
Donel would often jump from the bandstand,
and walk the top of the bar
while belting out Twenty-four Hours a Day,
or Stagger Lee.
The giant concrete dance floor was behind the bandstand
and held hundreds of dancers.
I worked behind the piano at the back of the stage,
with a six foot drop to my death if I stepped back.
This will be important later.
The club took ID photos of everybody who came in the door.
There were over a dozen bouncers armed with blackjacks.
At least a couple of the bouncers were nuts,
and couldn't wait to beat somebody up.
There was a lot of bloodshed,
but the music was good.
If you were looking for the rest room
and happened to wander toward Johnny's office,
crazy Dobermans would bounce off the inside of his door,
wanting you for lunch.
Johnny said they only attacked when annoyed.
You could annoy them by just existing.
We had a live radio show every night from the club,
and Pauly, the brother, was the emcee.
One night Pauly and Donel started arguing
while we were on the air.
It turned into a fistfight
and they began wrestling around the stage,
knocking things over.
My big old piano was balanced on top of whiskey cases,
so I could play standing up,
and when Donel and Pauly lurched my way
they tipped the piano off the cases.
I was straining every muscle
to hold up the piano with my bare hands,
and looking at the six foot drop to the cement behind me.
This is what Pauly yelled at me:
"Keep playing, kid! We're on the air!"
We got a higher paying job at The Club Seventeen,
but Johnny sent his bouncers to walk through the new club,
intimidating the customers and us.
We finally went back to work at the King o' Hearts.
A few years later Johnny did some prison time.
When he got out he was elected Mayor of a nearby city.

| HUGO DUNCAN
By Roger Ryan
rogerryan@eircom.net
He may be known as The Wee Man from Strabane, but when it comes to country music, there
arent many people who can stand as tall as Hugo Duncan.
With a career spanning more than two decades of recordings and live performances, Hugo has
in recent years expanded into a career of radio and television. He has a very popular
radio show called Afternoon Country five days a week on BBC Radio Ulster as
well as a weekend show on Radio Foyle.
Hugo has also presented a string of tv shows for BBC Northern Ireland, most notably
Town Challenge, Hugo Goes To Nashville, and his country music
series Hugo & Friends. He was also one of the presenters on the BBC
Children In Need programme.
I caught up with this extremely busy man recently at a weekend country music festival at
the Walter Raleigh Hotel, Youghal, Co.Cork.
I remember coming down here to Youghal way back in the 70s, he told me.
We played down here in the Redbarn Ballroom. I remember it well as we used to come
down here quite often. In those days there were so many dance halls, and so many places to
play in. Sadly thats all changed now. In those days also, we had what we called the
dry halls, where you had just a mineral bar and teas and coffee. Nowadays if you
dont have a bar, you dont have a crowd.
Is that any different from the scene North of the Border?
The main difference is that we play a lot more concerts than dances in the
North. We have lots of theatres up there with at least one in each major town.
You can play your concert and still be home by midnight, whereas down South, where dancing
is still very popular, you usually go on stage at midnight and finish at 2.00 AM, if
youre lucky. I still get a good buzz out of the dances though, as well as the
concerts and other stuff.
I always maintain theres an entertainment tree there that has lots of branches. Some
of the branches are television, and some are radio. Others are the songwriters, while
others are the dancing and concerts etc. Ive been very lucky really to be involved
in not only in the singing end of the business, but in the radio and tv as well. Most of
my time is now taken up with my radio programmes. I do six days a week on BBC Radio Ulster
and BBC Radio Foyle on Sunday.
My programmes consist of a mixture of country and Irish. We had such a response to the
home-grown talent that I now dedicate one entire programme each week to Irish artists on
Radio Ulster.
Do you have any problems getting Irish product for your shows?
I have no problems whatsoever in getting sufficient Irish product for my shows. As a
matter of fact, sometimes I get so much stuff that I just dont have enough time to
fit it all in.
Nowadays people have lots of facilities for recording their own material and as a
consequence theres a lot more recordings available. Most are of top class
broadcasting quality, but some do leave a little to be desired. My advice to people would
be to ensure that you have a good producer in the studio, who will supervise everything
and give you a finished product that will be suitable for broadcasting and that will do
you justice. What sounds good on stage doesnt necessarily sound good in a recording
studio. So, my advise would be, pay attention to all the little details and make sure the
recording is perfect before you release it to the radio stations for airplay.
Are you happy with where youre at right now?
I consider that I have been very lucky really. During my time as a tv presenter Ive
been to Nashville and interviewed some of the top names in the country music business such
as Charley Pride, Tom T. Hall, Crystal Gayle, Ricky Skaggs, The Bellamy Brothers etc. Some
of these people would be my own personal favourites and it really great to get an
opportunity to meet them, and visit with them.
Do you do much travelling?
I leave my home every morning at 8.00 AM to drive the 90 miles to the radio station.
Then I start to prepare my show, do the show, finish at 3.00PM, and spend a few hours in
the station before heading back home again. Thats a typical day for me. My jeep is
only 6 months old and already I have 40,000 miles up on the clock. I do about 80,000 miles
a year, so while I can say that I cope with it, its still a lot of travelling.
How did you get started in the music business?.
I was always interested in music as far back as I can remember. In school I was in the
choir, and I also sang at Feis Cheoils. I got medals in both the Guildhall in Derry
and Strabane for singing, so I was really involved in the music business in some shape or
form from a very young age, and my interest grew from there.
I started off playing bass in a Ceilí Band, and later on my mother bought me a guitar and
amp, and from there I went on to singing in local pubs etc, before joining some local
bands. Then Pio Mc Cann got me an audition with a band called The Tallmen, and despite the
fact that I didnt quite measure up to the other members of the band,
they liked my voice, and I was hired.
In the five years that I spent with The Tallmen, we had at least 10 numbers in the charts,
including my major hit Dear God, which went to No.1.
The rest as they say is history, and thankfully Ive enjoyed it.
Do you have any ambitions left ?
At the moment I have three beautiful grandchildren which I dote on, and my ambition
is to see them grow up and spend as much time as possible with them.
