Shania Twain is picking up the pieces and looking ahead to the future after splitting from her husband, Robert John “Mutt” Lange. Will she survive divorce and find happiness like other stars? Shania’s friends note that she has been focusing on family and her son, Eja, and writing new songs at a fast pace. “I have so much to say, but the best way for me to speak is through my music,” Shania says on her official website. “I need some time to heal this broken heart but make no mistake––I will be back.” The story also includes profiles of other country stars who have gone through divorce, like Trace Adkins and Garth Brooks, but found love all over again.

Fox Mountain Country Music Festival Newsletter

September 12, 2008

Re: 6th Annual Fox Mountain COUNTRY Music Festival, July 30-Aug 2, 2009

6128 Aylesford Road, Nova Scotia, Canada, B0P 1C0, 902 847-3747

Hello Friends:

Getting ready for the 1st festival in 2004, I never once thought beyond it, to putting on another one. But here it is, 2008, and we just celebrated our 5th.  It’s been an awesome ride! Who’d a ever thunk it! I’ve had great support from many people over these past five years including my husband, my band, my staff, the crowds, sponsors, the camping park staff and the owner, Neil Tupper.

Speaking of the owner, Neil has been telling me for several years now that the long range plan is for his daughter, Heidi, to take over the reigns. He tells me that the time is right and that Heidi is now managing the bookings and the store.  Up till now, everyone was used to Gilbert answering the phones and taking all the bookings, as well as all his other duties. After many years of being a bachelor, Gilbert finally tied the knot in early 2008. In August, he officially moved to Ontario with his new wife, Charlotte. We wish them both the best as together, they continue on a new journey in life.

Although Heidi has had her “finger in the pie”, so to speak for a long time, it is still going to be a big challenge for her. Her tasks will be many. The bookings alone, for the Country Music Festival, are a huge undertaking, so I have agreed to help her. We have made several changes already. We have decided not to have any tickets at any locations around the province. None! We are eliminating that immediately. This decision was not made lightly but it has been difficult to keep track of sites, selling tickets in that manner. Sometimes people would book their site, intending to go purchase their tickets at an advance location, but never follow through. This left empty sites and handling it a new way, together we can correct that. To keep a better handle on bookings, from now on, for the Country Music Festival only, the only place to call for reservations, and to purchase tickets will be through Heidi, at the Fox Mountain Office, AND myself. If you were at the 2008 festival, and want to re-book your site, you have until Nov. 1, 2008, to do so; otherwise it becomes available to someone else on a first come-first served basis. This was published in the program given out at the gate. If you call to reserve a site, ALL reserved sites must be paid for by June 1/09 or they too will go to someone else.  With both of us working together and keeping the bookwork up to date, any site not paid for by the deadline will become available.

Another ticklish spot was people “on your honour”. Unfortunately there will be no more, on your honor. The two of us are starting fresh, a new system so to speak, and together, are trying to make it better for one and all.  For the past five years I have been looking after booking the acts, the advertising, and securing sponsors and I feel that I have been doing a good job in spearheading all of those. I will bring my experience into play in this new role and I am more than willing to help Heidi in this new opportunity. Heidi is requesting that even though you might have already booked your site, it would be appreciated, now that we have taken over the bookings, if you would call her and touch base with her to re-confirm, so we have a good handle on things. Have your phone number and address ready for us.

We wanted to let you know of these changes immediately and one way was to put it in this ezine. Please pass the word to your friends. You may still get advance tickets, but only through the two of us. As the festival grows, so do the challenges. Most people buck change. It may take us a while to get this “in the bag”, as we get our feet wet, but we are putting the best interests of festival goers first and foremost. We ask that you bear with us, as we meet this new challenge head on.

This is the first ezine since the 2008 festival and I’d personally like to thank each and every one of you who have supported me over the past five years.  Summer has come and gone and although most events are only digital memories, we still have several musical concerts around the province and elsewhere to look forward to before the long winter days and nights set in. And speaking of memories, please follow the link www.foxmountaincampingpark.com/countrymusic.htm and find the yellow banner with photos from 2008’s festival. You just might see someone you recognize. Keep in mind, Christmas is really not that far off and tickets to the 2009 four day festival would make a great present, or, for any celebration, for that matter.

Until next time, my personal thought for today is: If you want people motivated to do a good job, give them a job that they love to do.  It promotes better health and longevity.

Legendary actor Paul Newman dies at age 83

Published - Sep 27 2008 10:55AM EDT | AP

Paul Newman

The Academy-Award winning superstar who personified cool as the anti-hero of such films as "Hud," "Cool Hand Luke" and "The Color of Money" _ and as an activist, race car driver and popcorn impresario _ has died. He was 83.
Newman died Friday after a long battle with cancer at his farmhouse near Westport, publicist Jeff Sanderson said. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.

In May, Newman had dropped plans to direct a fall production of "Of Mice and Men," citing unspecified health issues.

He got his start in theater and on television during the 1950s, and went on to become one of the world's most enduring and popular film stars, a legend held in awe by his peers. He was nominated for Oscars 10 times, winning one regular award and two honorary ones, and had major roles in more than 50 motion pictures, including "Exodus," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Verdict," "The Sting" and "Absence of Malice."

Newman worked with some of the greatest directors of the past half century, from Alfred Hitchcock and John Huston to Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese and the Coen brothers. His co-stars included Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and, most famously, Robert Redford, his sidekick in "Butch Cassidy" and "The Sting."

He sometimes teamed with his wife and fellow Oscar winner, Joanne Woodward, with whom he had one of Hollywood's rare long-term marriages. "I have steak at home, why go out for hamburger?" Newman told Playboy magazine when asked if he was tempted to stray. They wed in 1958, around the same time they both appeared in "The Long Hot Summer," and Newman directed her in several films, including "Rachel, Rachel" and "The Glass Menagerie."

With his strong, classically handsome face and piercing blue eyes, Newman was a heartthrob just as likely to play against his looks, becoming a favorite with critics for his convincing portrayals of rebels, tough guys and losers. "I was always a character actor," he once said. "I just looked like Little Red Riding Hood."

Newman had a soft spot for underdogs in real life, giving tens of millions to charities through his food company and setting up camps for severely ill children. Passionately opposed to the Vietnam War, and in favor of civil rights, he was so famously liberal that he ended up on President Nixon's "enemies list," one of the actor's proudest achievements, he liked to say.

A screen legend by his mid-40s, he waited a long time for his first competitive Oscar, winning in 1987 for "The Color of Money," a reprise of the role of pool shark "Fast" Eddie Felson, whom Newman portrayed in the 1961 film "The Hustler."

Newman delivered a magnetic performance in "The Hustler," playing a smooth-talking, whiskey-chugging pool shark who takes on Minnesota Fats _ played by Jackie Gleason _ and becomes entangled with a gambler played by George C. Scott. In the sequel _ directed by Scorsese _ "Fast Eddie" is no longer the high-stakes hustler he once was, but rather an aging liquor salesman who takes a young pool player (Cruise) under his wing before making a comeback.
