POWER COUNTRY is a modern country music style, oriented on the New American Country Scene which means: Not too traditional, not too rocky, but from every music form a little something. Its a mixture of Western Swing, Rythymn and Blues, Country Folk and Country Rock, presented to the public in a brand new sound. This is the trademark of Honky Tonk Heroes music. Singer / Songwriter, Lex Allen, formed the band Honky Tonk Heroes in February, 1991. From the very beginning the band concentrated on performing the American Top 40 songs and their own compositions, written primarily by Lex and the bands lead guitarist, Helmut Phillipp. In August of 1991 the band released its first single with the songs "Hey, Little Girl" and "Southern States of Dixie". "Hey, Little Girl" was entered into the Trucker Hit Parade and achieved 10th place in the first week of radio air play. Lex was born in San Marcos, Texas and raised in the Texas cities of Austin, San Antonio and Corpus Christi. He is, without the slightest doubt, pure Texan, although he now resides in Germany. Lex has had to struggle to gain acceptance. He was primarily categorized as "Country Rock" and shunned by most of the country promoters. By 1991, however, the country scene had grown to accept new country and with it - line dancing! Knowing that finally his chance had come, Lex formed Honky Tonk Heroes and set out to become the best new country / line dance band in Europe. He is well on his way!! Lex and his band have now reached International recognition and acclaim. His performances and radio airplay stretch from the United States, throughout the United Kingdom and are sweeping across Europe. The music of the Honky Tonk Heroes can be heard on the radio stations of every European nation and the band can be seen across the European map. If you're a country rocker, you're bound to enjoy HTH's CD. For
folks like myself, who lean more towards the ballads, there's plenty for you as well. Lex
is discovering something he didn't know he had within him....the heart and soul that it
takes to give a great delivery on a ballad. I asked Lex why he didn't do more ballads such
as "Don't Say Goodbye". He told me that "Power Country" was mostly
country rock as descibed above. I relpied that power comes in the ability to touch someone
with your music and I encouraged him to sing one ballad in a performance where he could
reach inside of himself, feel the power of the song and deliver what he felt. Believe it
or not, Lex took me at my word and sang Garth Brook's "The Dance" at the request
of a gal in the audience. Lex put himself "into" the song, felt deeply what he
was singing, and was amazed to find this young lady sobbing into her boyfriend's
handkerchief. He was so amazed at her response and thrilled to know that his feelings had
been transferred to her so deeply he went to talk to her after the performance. This is
Lex Allen; a man who is not afraid to explore the depths of his music or his heart, and
one who will always connect with the people, through his music as well as friendship. Though it was hard to pick a few from 14 songs, I chose the ones below. One of my favorites, "Don't You Say Goodbye" can be found on HTH's homepage along with others not listed here. Pay attention to the great harmony these guys have! All songs are Copyright of honky Tonk Heroes 1996 Produced by Honky Tonk
