Joe grew up on a 46 acre farm where his family had cows and grew their own food. Anyone coming from that kind of background knows that the farm life teaches you the real meaning of work, and work ethics. You can't put anything off 'till tomorrow. Joe has shown the same fortitude in his adult life. He earned his Master's Degree and became an engineer with Caterpillar, Inc. Unfortunately, that job was lost as were many other jobs on Sept. 11th, 2001. With his home-bred work ethic and his education to aide him, he soon found another job and has not let any of it interfere with his creative side.

Joe Houck wrote his first song in 1980 but his first effort wasn't well received by his friends who said it just wasn't country. In the mid '90s, Joe joined "Southern Comfort, a country band that did cover tunes with Joe as the lead singer for 2 years.

Joe's first album, "For You", is more of a Southern Rock sound on many songs, but then there's ones like, "Outskirts" that has a 50's cha-cha flavor to it. There's also some nice ballads to round it all out, so all in all, there's a good mixture to accommodate different moods and tastes. Joe wrote and produced all ten tracks himself, showing once again that hard work pays off.

Joe stated, "On a web radio station www.newartistradio.net during the week of my 42nd birthday (April of 2002) I reached number one on their charts. I was invited to go to the award ceremonies in March for the NAR awards in Park City Utah. I got to perform my new song 'Dream' and received two awards, Male vocal of the year and New Arisen Male. On the independent charts in Europe 'Sugar Cane' hit number 26 and number 23 this spring. “Double life” reached the top 30 there also."

"For You" was Joe's first CD release in 2001 and it's been sitting on my desk nearly as long waiting for a review... in the meantime, Joe didn't sit around and wait to see how this album would be received, he got right to work on a new album called, "Dream". That may be his title, but I think Joe has proven it's not his way of living... he doesn't "Dream" about what he wants, he works hard and his accomplishments are making their mark on the indie charts.
