Very few artists carry on the tradition of that
Bakersfield sound, but here are some originals from Lance Cosgrove and Ben Rushing that'll
get ya back into that toe-tappin' Bakersfield mood.
Lance Cosgrove wrote the 13 songs on this CD,
"Raining In Bakersfield" and his partner Ben Rushing is the drummer and backing
vocalist. They have what is referred to as a "modern Bakersville sound". This is
the second of two albums they have recorded on their own label, CozRush Records.
The rollickin' upbeat tunes, such as "Come Rock Me
Now", will have ya bouncin' in your seat...if ya can manage to stay in it, and the
ballads will swing your mood right to the heart of the lyrics; the most poignant of these
being "A Heartache Ten Miles Wide", "These Tears On Me" and "In
Your Little Girl's Eyes". "Lonesome Pine" will take you back to the Singing
Cowboy days with that Hop-A-Long Cassidy lope.
One of my favorite things about this CD is the variety
of beats and styles of delivery. While all songs are in the Bakersfield tradition, there
are several tempos and styles intertwined in such a way as to take you from a rock to a
hard place, while enjoying it all. With 13 songs to chose from, you're bound to find
almost anything to suit any mood.
