Get Felts
An album to look for is the Bear Fanily
release of "Drift Away" by Narvel Felts. In some way it is a rather unusual
release from Bear Family as, instead of the label's usual in-depth coverage of an artist's
recordings, this album picks out Narvel's career highlights. Subtitled "The Best Of
Narvel Felts 1973-79", the tracks are drawn from Cimmaron, ABC/Dot and MCA archives,
kicking off with "Drift Away", the song that started Narvel's country chart
career in June of 1973. Among the 29 other tracks, the unique Felts' vocal styling turns
in wonderful performances throughout, with somgs such as "Reconsider Me", his
biggest hit and "Fraulein" which was not a hit but should have been. There is
also a great duet, "Until The End Of Time", with Sharon Vaughan (who enjoyed
fleeting success in the mid 1970's). Bear Family have a great track record for releasing
quality albums and this one is no exception and also a great value, lasting more than 77
minutes. This album should really have been released by one of the major labels to give it
that extra push into the world arena because it richly deserves it.
